Warlord Bring Beyond the Gates of Antares’ Rules to Alpha!
October 9, 2014 by dracs
Warlord have an exciting announcement about their upcoming scifi game Beyond the Gates of Antares as the initial rules are now ready to begin alpha stage play testing.
The Alpha Playtest is now open for anyone who wants to throw in their two cents on this new scifi game, all you have to do is follow this link and sign up.
It's exciting to see that the game has reached the Alpha stage, especially given the amount of miniature previews we have seen. And speaking of new miniature previews...
This Boromite team is equipped with a light mag (magnetic) weapon. These weapons use a magnetic pulse to fire metallic projectiles, which can range from spikes to slivers. This turret miniature definitely looks the scifi part and fits well with the previous pieces we have seen already.
Do you plan to sign up for the Alpha playtesting?

Oh yes! Count me in; if it’s anything like bolt action was for historical, I’ll be all over this. I hope to say ‘stand aside WH40K, your time is up!’…
…I can only hope…
I share that sentiment. Would be great to get into a sci-fi game with more meat to it, and not Yahtzee with miniatures and more dice. I went over my old sci-fi Striker rules the other day and realized why I stopped playing it — too complex. A shame, as I liked Traveler as an RPG. This rules set could very well be my next obsession. As for the mini’s: not entirely sold on the Boromite faction. They look like a cross between a sea turtle and that rocky guy from Fantastic Four. Some of the other figures are acceptable… Read more »
I think there is space enough for both GoA and 40K in the market, especially since they both really scratch different itches, with 40K covering a sci fantasy niche, while GoA is much more in the vein of ‘hard’ SF that was explicitly created to avoid things like space magic and other unambiguously supernatural elements. 40K is a universe with literal gods, demons and what essentially amount to space wizards, whereas Antares is a fiction that consists of stuff that, while perhaps extreme, is broadly compatible with at least vaguely believeable rules of biology and scientific understanding. GoA has all… Read more »
With what Warlord can do with their Bolt Action plastics I’m very hopeful for this line.
Over all that seems very promising.
Yup, going to try and play a test this weekend. I’ve been looking forward to this.
Good news to finally see some rules 🙂 if they are keeping that cover for the rulebook i suggest two things; the guy in the fronts weapon looks like its been bent, its subtle but noticeable. Also edit out the laser that comes out of it.
These two things ruined my impression of an otherwise very cool image.
I’m all for the idea but I just don’t like the mini’s. For me, its the minis first then game second. Thing is, I like all the other mini’s Warlord do for their historical and Dredd range. Just cant get onboard with this though. I appreciate there is room for different styles of mini in the sc-fi fantasy setting but everything just looks bobbins compared to Infinity.
Dang, them models look ugly and not in the good way.
The biggest hurdle will be to get people exticed for the models…which will be hard, currently they all look about decade too late.
