About the Project

A little bit late to the Spring clean challenge this year. I started going through some of the plastic backlog and meant to put up a project, then ended up moving house in the middle... Battle for Skull Pass goblins, some metal orcs, a few yeti (are they like sheep... 1 sheep, many sheep. Yetis doesn't look right...???) and some doom divers (well minus 1 who ended up in a Blood Bowl Team).

Snow way!

I wanted to give the Yeti a little bit of a lift in terms of visual interest.

So I decided to give snow a go

1st attempt… PVA and Bicarb

It ended up looking like Ice (logged that for future use).

Snow way!

Attempt 2

PVA, Bicarb, White paint & Matt varnish

Pretty impressed, I may use snow on loads more things now. So simple but it makes the models pop

Grom and Niblit

I converted Grom and Niblit to be just a fat goblin Lord and banner bearer many years ago, for dungeon crawling. Niblit used to have a big dwarf axe and Grom had an ogre cleaver, but they broke off in a box somewhere. They were also on flagstone bases.

Grom still needs a drybrush and some static grass on his base to tie him in with the others…

Doom Divers

I had some old doom divers kicking around, minus one diver, as he ended up in a Blood Bowl team some years back

I decided to stick them all on a base together so I could have 3 catapults but only 2 gobbos.

Cut up a cork mat, glued on sand and then splashed on a coat of quickshade for extra strength.

I bent the middle catapult down so it looked unused

I’ve been doing all my goblins a very old ‘bilious green’ GW paint from 20 odd years ago and the orcs from ‘Goblin Green’

Amazing how these paints have lasted

I found a few wolf riders in my bits box and decided to do them next.

I have some of the old Marauder miniatures wolf riders and I definitely prefer their fun look.

But these are still fun…

My old wolves are either grey or brown. For these ones I wanted a more realistic fur pattern, so went for three tones, quickshade and a dry brush

I had my first attempt at freehand design painting on a banner, not brilliant, but I think it fits gobbos

I had some old metal orcs, a mix of warriors and crew from bolt throwers and the old rock lobber (no idea what happened to the war machines themselves… long lost). Led by Gorfang Rotgut a few were painted and on flagstone bases for use in dungeon crawlers. So they all got rebased and regimented

I love the character of these sculpts. hey appeal to me so much more than the multi part plastics that followed.

Some Yeti found in my bits box

What is the plural of Yeti? Or is it like sheep? One Yeti, many Yeti?

So these chaps had been half painted for years and thrown in the box, so they needed to be rebased and have their hands stuck back on.

I may still add some snow to their bases…

I gave their basecoat a patch up, dry brushed them a bone colour and then quick shaded them.

After that I highlighted the teeth, bones, and had a go at ice weapons

I thought I took loads of pics as I went along… but nope, no I didn’t

This is my 3rd separate attempt to upload this post… fingers crossed

So I started with some Skull Pass Night Gobbos. I love these little chaps, so simple but with a tonne of character (Not as much as the Kev Adams Night Goblins, but not far off).

I built the regiment and started to paint the front rank as a test, they ended going into a jar of dettol

While they were having their paint dissolved, I tried a different batch painting route… contrast. My first experience with GW contrasts.

I have to say… “meh”, I don’t think they saved me any time, but I did like them so I will continue to experiment.

I think my photography skills are comparable to Gerry, so i’ll attempt some nicer pics towards the end of this

Project system seems broken

After multiple attempts to upload entries i’m giving up for the moment. Is something up with the site?

At the start of the year I decided to finish off a few bits and bobs and found that last year the spring clean challenge was a good incentive to crack on and get some work done.

I took loads of photos as I progressed, then I ended up moving home and every time I sat down to make a project, there was always something else to do. So here we go (if the OTT website will let me… the projects system is quite janky today it seems…)

I emptied a couple of figure cases to see what was kicking around, and sorted out my bits box to see what was hiding in there too.

Some Skull Pass stuff bought off ebay yonks ago, some wolf riders, a few yeti to finish, and a handful of old metal orcs
