I don’t know that it’s true that there is a split into Discord users and OTT forum users. I have used both. If there is a split then i don’t think that that’s necessarily a problem any more than having multiple groups of forum users exclusively interested in and participating in discussions about one genre of game and not others. I think it could even be of benefit. (I tend to think of facebook’s purpose, if it is to be used at all, as a way of siphoning off discussion that’s …. of less interest to me.) Again, to some extent, i would think to a large extent, the benefit of these various platforms will depend on their functionality, and in particular, with reference to the idea of separate platforms facilitating and promoting splits in the user base, how those platforms are integrated and set up. For example, if someone posts a project in the ‘share-your-projects’ OTT Discord chat room are they (made) aware that there is an associated OTT website? Are they (made) aware that on the OTT they can ‘Add a Project’ to the ‘Projects’ section of the OTT website? Are they made aware of the difference between the OTT Discord chat room ‘share-your-projects’ and the OTT website ‘Projects’ section? Do they know why there are two separate OTT places where they can post their projects? (Is there a reason, and does it facilitate use, to have one called ‘Projects’ and the other called ‘share-your-projects’?) Can they (effectively) transfer from one to the other easily? I could go on.
