Shawn Tomkin of Tomkin Press is now on Kickstarter with the Sci-Fi twist on the Ironsworn RPG called Starforged. You'll now be able to dive into a deep and rewarding solo/coop roleplaying experience in an entirely new setting!

The premise behind the Ironsworn series of roleplaying games is that they allow you to dive into playing through stories on your own, with a friend or perhaps through a more traditional guided play experience. In many respect, a game of Ironsworn: Starforged would work the same way as other roleplaying stories with a real focus on meaningful choices and consequences based on the options you choose.

The core of the system, using Moves to dictate the action, is inspired by the Apocalypse World mechanics designed by D. Vincent Baker and Meguey Baker. Whilst there is a lot of narrative choice in the game, a dice still rules the outcome of risky situations but that's part of the fun!

Coming up with what's going to happen to next on the fly can be pretty hard but thankfully games of Ironsworn: Starforged also have the Oracle to call on. This system of tables and lists is there to help prompt you as to your next course of action, especially in solo or cooperative games.

If you're interested in the sound of the game I would recommend watching the Guided/Coop playthrough from High Rollers above. It might be for the Fantasy version of the game but it will give you a good idea of how everything works.

Dive Into Ironsworn: Starforged

Starforged obviously takes all of the elements of Ironsworn and allows you to experience them alongside the vast opportunities that Sci-Fi presents.

There are a number of ways for you to pick up the game in addition to the Asset Cards and Reference Guide which would be very handy if you're planning to dive deep into the game. Backers of the campaign will also get access to the Preview Edition of Starforged so that they can give it a go and feedback on the project to Tomkin Press.

Stretch Goals have also been unlocked as the campaign has pushed on. I am especially excited to see more of the wonderful art and the starship schematics!

The art in Starforged by Joshua Meehan is particularly evocative and really adds to the kind of Sci-Fi world(s) you're going to encounter. There is a distinctly desperate feel to the planets and space that you're exploring in Starforged, set against terrifying odds and the utterly unknown.

I reckon there is a lot of fun to be had here and it would be neat to hear if any of you have tried the solo variant of Ironsworn?
