Interesting.
from me, I am in discord but basically don’t use it… hate it in fact… perhaps irrationally. I rarely go on it, theoretically I should use it for my job research, hobby research, hobby actually doing stuff (eg RPG etc) but I just don’t. it might be down to me being petrified of social media type platforms, being drawn into a argument over an emotive subject and then disciplined by my job. for me, it simply is not worth me engaging on there with people who I perceive to be disingenuous and out to get clicks and likes at the expense of others, they don’t care who or what about.
I am much more comfortable with the idea of a forum. there isnt as much emphasis on likes or whatnot, its a slow time conversation and not an instant gratification item.
darkdangen ‘s comment about being unwilling t0 commit to a permanent record. that rings true with me too but I am more comfortable with it than the social media type messaging platform. would be interesting whether that is a mentality thing with them too, as messaging platforms and social media can also be a permanent record. certainly recoverable by the right people with the right kit and reasons.
and others have already mentioned the concern about causing offence… yup. I get it. it sometimes seems to be a race to be offended first or who can be the most inflammatory.
