Learn More About Black Library’s Cursed City Special Character!

Black Library is going to be releasing a book by C.L. Werner to coincide with the release of the new Warhammer Quest: Cursed City board game. Inside the hardback (and special edition) version of the book, you'll find a hero card by Games Workshop for the somewhat suspect Morrvahl Olbrecht.

Morrvahl Olbrecht lives in the city of Ulfenkarn despite the vampiric incursion that took over its streets. It's very handy for him though as this rather strange individual is a wizard who studies the darker arts including necromancy.
Morrvahl Olbrecht // Warhammer Quest
Miniature-wise, the character can be made using the Cities Of Sigmar Collegiate Arcane Mystic Battle Wizards (what a title...) set. So, if you have this plastic kit lying around from the days of Warhammer Fantasy Battles then you're in luck!
In games of Cursed City, Morrvahl adds a slightly more competitive edge to your cooperative gaming as he is mostly out for himself. The other heroes just happen to be along for the ride. His scythe, Gravebloom, allows him to stop damage from being cancelled which is very handy when used against some of the bigger monsters in the game.
Additionally, we also have his Soulstorm ability which can hit everything on the same tile as him, friend and foe alike. Any critical result causes damage to everyone around him and if he damages friendly models it adds to his Path To Glory condition. Who wouldn't want more inspiration points?
I do like the idea of having a character that can hurt everything around him and might be very useful in desperate circumstances. Do you trade off the damage you might suffer in order to bring down ranks of Deathrattle Skeletons? I'm sure he will raise the ire of all other players around the tabletop!
The Book - What's The Story?
We also got a few more details on the story of Cursed City. The novel will be set before the events of the game where you're looking into a series of grisly murders. Your unlikely heroes and a very antisocial necromancer come together to investigate it, exploring the alleys of the city and the Ebon Citadel itself.
This might be just the extra dose of lore you need to get you through painting the full set of miniatures in Cursed City! I was going to get the book in eBook form but I think I might shell out for the hardback to get this additional hero card.
Are you eagerly awaiting Cursed City?

That looks very nice.
I love that old wizards kit. Probably still have one or two knocking around (and several kg of wizardly bits).
Interesting that they choose such an old model, but the wizard kit still is fun.
A Clever way to re launch an older mini as a special character
…and now the kit is selling out on the GW store haha
Someone in marketing is going to be smiling today and so they should looks like the idea worked. I’d expect further Special characters turning up in the future.
A great looking wizard controlling the sands of time.
Ooo turns out I do have that box kicking around, will be sure adding him to the game
I had that kit. But I might have converted/reused all the bits out of existence 🙁 Time for a bits hoke 🙂
I like that a necromancer is investigating a murder.
Let’s see: $40 for the kit. although it does contain 4 figures and Lord knows how much for a hardbound, Black Library book to get the card. In order to use an old, standard sized figure, that’s kinda pricey, even for GW. The offer will sell books though.
