A New Necromunda Starter Set & Fiery Cawdor Zealots On The Way
March 22, 2021 by brennon
If you've been thinking about jumping into Necromunda recently then you might want to wait a little bit and pick up the new Sci-Fi Starter Set, Hive War. Oh, and some fiery new House Cawdor offerings are making their way to the tabletop soon too from Games Workshop.

The Hive War Starter Set serves as an updated entry point into the gang wars of the Underhive. House Escher are still in the mix here but they are now going up against House Delaque in a war for territory.

The new set comes with two complete gangs for Necromunda in House Escher & Delaque but you also get all of that terrain and a gaming mat to play on too. There is also an updated 104-page introductory rulebook and all of the accessories that you need in order to play the game.

Depending on the price point, I could see this being another good entry-level product from Games Workshop. Most of the time they do a good job with these although you are often left wondering what you actually need to buy next.
I'm sure some folks could fill me in as to what would be a good next step beyond this. I would assume that beyond the Rulebook, the next step would be to find out what else is required for your particular House of choice with their own "Codexes" for you to choose from nowadays.
Get Hot Under The Collar With House Cawdor
As well as the new starter set in Hive War we also got a look at what's being added to House Cawdor.
House Cawdor Redemptionists // Necromunda
House Cawdor put the rest of the Emperor's faithful to shame. You know that guy who keeps banging on about how he had that spiritual experience and you should join his next holiday to the "farm"? Well, House Cawdor are that multiplied by a hundred. It's not a cult, it's a way of life. Oh, and attaching fire to everything is clearly the way to go.
The rules for your new Redemptionists are going to be included in the new House Of Faith book.

This means that you can add the Redemptionists as optional extras to your Cawdow gang OR make them the core of it instead. I would imagine that even many in House Cawdor stay away from these guys and their fiery zeal.
Are you going to be checking out these new miniatures and the Hive War Starter Set?

“Hot headed Redemptionists from your area would like to meet with you and light the flame of friendship”
Although the Redemptionists are eagerly awaited, it’s a pity that the basic House Cawdor gangs got the shaft in NOT getting any “Juve” and specialist minis in a box set (like the other houses). If you want to add these “Cawdor Specialists” to your gang you would have to make your entire gang “outlaw” (with all the disadvantages this brings). Ideally the Redemptionists should have been an extra gang (10 figure) box in addition to a Cawdor specialist box to go alongside the rules book (yet another one…sigh. My bookshelf is really starting to creak under the weight, and I’ve… Read more »
That new starter box looks good and those Redemptionists are really nice.
As I have both the starters already, this box is pretty much pointless. Escher Gang was in Underhive starter and the 3D terrain was in Dark Uprising (although a lot more of it).
GW seem very fire obsessed lately… Warcry Catacombs had pyromaniacs in too.
Only big box I’m interested in at the moment is Warhammer Quest Cursed City.
It is an alt-starter for people who didn’t already get those boxes, right?
Back in the day, the Goliaths were the least liked gang, so it surprised me when they decided to lead with them for the new edition. Escher and Deloq were quite well liked back then, so it makes sense to go that direction instead.
Nice looking figures,Repent thy sins or be cleaned in the heat of the emperors flames.
It looks like they’re combining the House Cawdor and old Redemptionist stuff together.
That probably makes sense- the old Redemptionist fluff implied that it was largely made up of Cawdor extremists (or something along those lines).
We still haven’t seen new Scavvies, Ratskin and Spyrer gangs, right?
Yeah, they seem to have combined both Gangs and the rules are in the same book. I really hope we see the Redeemer get a release. His character was always cool.
I fear the guilds are replacing the Spyrers (the water fellas on the way are the first). I’ll be delighted if I’m proved wrong though. I’d be all over the Spyrers even at Forge World prives.
Does this playfield look like a lot smaller then those from the former starter boxes, or my eyes are betraying me?
Anfd those Redemptionists look like a plastic kit: 6 figures with 3 different leg poses. Interesting.
I still prefer the first edition scenery for Necromunda, but these don’t look bad at all
