Get A Peek At North Star’s Three New Stargrave Plastic Kits
March 11, 2021 by brennon
North Star Military Figures has been previewing some of the miniatures you'll be able to make from the Stargrave plastic kits which are on the way for the new Sci-Fi skirmish game by Osprey Games.
Ships Crew // Stargrave
There are three different plastic sets for you to choose from when it comes to making your Stargrave crew. The first is the Ships Crew set (see above) which gives you your pirates, explorers, adventurers and traders who keep things ticking over.
If you want to get a little bit more hardcore then you can also pick up the Mercenaries plastic set which comes with more well-armed individuals. A Ships Crew will be able to hold their own but you'll often need to call on bounty hunters, ex-soldiers and mercenaries to stop pirates making off with your cargo!
Mercenaries // Stargrave
The last of the initial plastic sets is for the Troopers who make up the security officers, soldiers and bodyguards who you might find guarding a range of facilities and space stations.
Troopers // Stargrave
As with most of the North Star plastic sets, all of these packs are going to come with a wealth of options AND they can be mixed and matched. If you wanted to clad your Ships Crew in heavy armour then go for it with the Troopers set. Maybe you fancy making a set of ragtag pirates? Well, mix EVERYTHING together and have fun!
With twenty miniatures per set and options for both humans and aliens, you've got a lot to play around with!
What direction will you be going with your Stargrave crew?
"...with twenty miniatures per set and options for both humans and aliens, you've got a lot to play around with!"
Well now we know what really happened to Ham and Laika.
Nice, has the same good oldschool vibes as Oathmark.
Those look rather good.
I’m digging out non-gothic sci-fi to get an early start in for Stargrave. I really like the looks of these though. Put me down for one of each!
Yep. I’m thinking these would go well with https://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/25mm-stargrunt.html
Oh wow. I never knew they did those in 25mm.
Three good set of figures love the trooper with the rocket launcher holding the second ready to go.
Yeah they really are packed with potential ?
Maybe I’m just too used to the aesthetic of Infinity so I couldn’t do anything with these. There is a distinct feel to them sure and the paintwork is very good, but the models leave me pretty cold.
So you’ll be waiting for Wargames Atlantic to redo/do more of the Iron Core miniature range before buying any “for stargrave/Sci-Fi skirmish games” plastic sets since those are the only Sci-Fi plastics I can think of off the top of my head that is currently out there and matches up at all with the Infinity aesthetic.
I hadn’t thought of the Iron Core for that. I was going to see how they worked out and potentially use them for 40k/Open Page Rules. If Stargrave turns out as something to play around with I think I would just use Infinity figures. I wouldn’t purpose build something new.
I think these look good but my current plan is to get more use out of my Infinity models, specifically those I picked up because the looked cool rather than being earmarked for an army list, with some odds and ends tacked in. As is often mentioned the open nature of the Grave systems is a really nice way to make use of an existing mini collection.
I love them : D
If I see them on sale I might pick them up, but with all the good minis coming out from folks like Wargames Atlantic and Maelstroms Edge, these are just not as tempting as they would have been back in 2010.
That said they are giving me a sorta of “MGS Bushwar Merc” vibe (except in the Traveler setting and with longer pants and shirt sleeves).
Maybe my Star Wars Legion figures with these rules. Not much of a fan of the shown figures, chunky – not my thing.
Usually I like the North Star stuff but these just leave me cold. I can’t even put my finger on what it is but yeah, I’ll probably just sub in figures from 7TV
