Quarantined Kittens – Socially Distanced Exploding Kittens

Exploding Kittens is one of my favourite party games. From Matthew Inman and Elan Lee - the geniuses behind The Oatmeal comics, they have designed a game that is quick and easy to pick up, and easily accessible for people who aren't used to reading through a rulebook of intense game mechanics.

This is one card game I usually bring out at Christmas with my family or playing casually with friends in a party atmosphere. But due to quarantine here in the UK and across the world; getting my friends together for a cheeky game of Exploding Kittens seems like a distant memory. Welcoming: Quarantined Kittens - the virtual way to get your friends together in some explosive goodness.

The Exploding Kittens website has provided some new rules for the base game, which allow you to play the game over Zoom, Facebook, Whatsapp or any other video chat you may use. So all that is required is your set of Exploding Kittens and of course, friends to play with.

The game mechanics have not changed at all, the designers have just adapted the gameplay to allow you to play in the comforts of your own home through a computer or mobile. Including what cards you need, what to do with your diffuse pile and how to take turns virtually.

The rules are available to be downloaded as a PDF here, and in not just English, but in Czech, French, Polish, Italian, German, Russian and Dutch too.

Seeing how our favourite tabletop games adapt during these strange times is incredibly interesting, but I am sure that I can speak for many of you when I say that I cannot wait to play my favourite games with my friends in person. It is nice to see more and more publishers adapting their games for fans to play, whilst we remain in hibernation.

I will certainly be dusting off my box of Exploding Kittens, will you be giving Quarantined Kittens a try?
