So, I’ve noticed in the discussions on the forum posts that there are quite a few people dealing with fatigue from the effects that Covid has on society. This may be the isolation that many find themselves in these days, or any other matters related (or perhaps unrelated!) to Covid.
I consider myself lucky that I have a family at home with whom I can hobby, but I realise from reading other peoples’ posts that there are many that are not as fortunate.
OnTableTop has organised the Lockdown Leisure League to address this before, which was good fun! But is there something similar or perhaps completely different that we can do as a community for The Community?
February 23, 2021 at 9:32 am #1615080It’s an interesting one that I shall ponder, but at the moment we have an 8 week House challenge that’s just started people can get involved in, don’t want to throw tons of overlapping things out timewise as nothing will get done really, but the Spring Clean Challenge will be launching at the end of March for 3 months.
February 23, 2021 at 10:02 am #1615093Mebbe we could take some of the elements of the Leisure League and use it to spice up the Spring Clean Challenge? Maybe some milestone based challenges? Could perhaps chuck in some Wayland vouchers for “Best Idea” half way through or something? Leaving execution etc to the end..
February 23, 2021 at 10:14 am #1615095I think the House challenge is awesome and I myself am also thinking of joining the Spring Cleaning challenge. I like the idea of adding milestones to keep everyone more involved (and vouchers are always nice :p).
I’m wondering, however, if there is a more personal element that could be added. There are enough challenges and the like for people to get stuck into. I think that it’s not the absence of hobby per se (I could bury myself in minis here and I know that my collection would be considered relatively small), but more the absence (or very different form) of the human element from the hobby.
Maybe make people team up for challenges, so you’re working on a project together?
February 23, 2021 at 11:57 am #1615133@avernos I think the problem with the house challenges is that they’re done on discord, and not everyone is on the discord. Personally I would like to see a lot of those things moved back to the forums, I think it’s a much better platform for doing challenges and things because the discussions are a lot easier to track. I don’t think forums currently get the love they deserve, they seem to have really fallen out of favour in the wake of the likes of Faceache and twatter, but they’re vastly superior for holding and managing multiple discussions (in my possibly old fashioned opinion)
February 23, 2021 at 12:26 pm #1615136@onlyonepinman but the reason it’s done through disco is you can have more immediate conversations about it and it also keeps it private from the other houses, otherwise there is no surprise reveal at the end if I can just go in and see what people are doing.
If people don’t want to be on discord that’s fine but from a purely mechanical point of view discord is much better for that than the forums.
As far as other things go though I much prefer forums for the rest, I don’t ask hobby questions on disco or even look at peoples hobby there, it’s solely a tool for chat
February 23, 2021 at 12:39 pm #1615137Unlike other social media (Twitter in particular but also to an extent Facebook) I don’t really have anything against Discord. The only reason I don’t use it is time – it’s just another distraction (and I am so easily distracted).
I am sure it’s possible to set up groups and forums with group permissions but obviously there’s an amount of admin required to achieve that and I don’t know how big the overhead is.
February 23, 2021 at 2:39 pm #1615231@onlyonepinman admin overhead is pretty massive to do it with the system in play here, its more of a liveblog smashed into forum like behaviour
@lonkelo im getting the urge to run something like the ultra casual bloodthirster painting comp i ran here when it came free on white dwarf, dunno if that could dovetail into the spring clean challenge @darkdanegan?, although i was thinking of something that finished at easter rather than a longer term thing, with projects and forum threads being used for entries (tagged appropriately), disco for progress shots and banter
February 23, 2021 at 4:18 pm #1615255@timchubb yeah some flash challenges alongside the main ones could be kinda cool.
