New Age Of Sigmar Undead & Lumineth Coming Soon
February 20, 2021 by brennon
Games Workshop has added a whole host of new miniatures into the mix for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. We start with the Lumineth Realm-lords but there are also some neat previews for a range of other factions too and Warhammer Underworlds!
Hurakan Spirit Of The Wind // Age Of Sigmar
Ellania & Ellathor // Age Of Sigmar
Hurakan Windmage // Age Of Sigmar
Scinari Calligrave // Age Of Sigmar
Scinari Loreseeker // Age Of Sigmar
Lyrior Uthralle // Age Of Sigmar
There are all manner of interesting miniatures as part of this collection which looks to draw from classic High Elf armies. I really like that we've got warriors who take me back to the look of the Swordmasters Of Hoeth (see below) and Ellania & Ellathor in particular who are pretty over-the-top but fun!
In fact, here is this selection of sword-wielding Aelves are here down below alongside their banner-bearer. Don't worry about how big that is, apparently, the banner is made of pure light!
Vanari Bladelords // Age Of Sigmar
Vanari Bannerblade // Age Of Sigmar
You can also get your hands on some new pieces of terrain which are going to be useful for the Lumineth Realm-lords. Who wouldn't want to channel magic power through this? It certainly looks very nice to help set the scene if nothing else.
Shrine Luminor // Age Of Sigmar
It should be noted that whilst the Lumineth are going to be getting all manner of new miniatures, you will need a new Battletome to use them. You could buy the new Battletome but Games Workshop has also said that there will be another way to pick up the rules to use them. Interesting!
Miniatures For Many Age Of Sigmar Factions!
As well as the options here for the Lumineth Realm-lords we also have a couple of new characters for a range of different factions. We'll just go through them here quickly as you've got some for Death and Order.
Krulghast Cruciator // Age Of Sigmar
Wight King // Age Of Sigmar
The Wight King is a great looking miniature that takes me back to Warhammer of old. It has had what many people call a "glow up" it seems. It might also find itself at the head of a new undead army in the near future so watch this space.
Finally, we have another miniature for the Stormcast Eternal. Gardus Steel Soul is a powerful hero who has been a part of the unfolding narrative of Age Of Sigmar for a while.
Gardus Steel Soul // Age Of Sigmar
This Stormcast Eternal hero has now stepped out of the novels by Black Library and is now ready to take on the enemies of the God-King. I like that we've got two different versions of the character to play around with and in this case I think the unhelmeted version is the best!
Last but not least we got another good look at Hedkrakka's Madmob which unleashes the fearsome might of Destruction on The Mortal Realms.
Hedkrakka's Madmob // Warhammer Underworlds
If you're interested in Warhammer Underworlds but don't know where to start, you are also going to be able to pick up a new Starter Set for two players which focuses on the Stormcast Eternals and Nighthaunt. This is a self-contained game but can obviously be expanded out to include all of the various factions.
Are you tempted by these new miniatures from Games Workshop?

Is the Sinari Calligrave standing on golf tees for a reason, or were heels just too conventional for a battlefield?
I’m guessing that they are based on a Venetian shoe called chopine. Although I’m no expert.
A crude form of these was a double elevated platform to keep one out of the mud and muck of the nasty streets.
Of course, I could be wrong. BUT, these are ‘Pretty Elves’ and they don’t like to get dirty!
Watching it yesterday its something about tapping into the power of the earth, they’ve basically stolen runesmithing from the Old World Dwarfs, as if recreating the Swordmasters and Loremaster wasn’t bad enough ?
Some Interesting figures love the Wright king is that a space marine? the gardus steel soul.
Sigmarine I think
He’s a Stormcast knight from the new Age of Sigmar books.
I like the shrine, the Vanari Bladelords, and Scinari Calligrave.
I like the shrine. So, more prissy Lumineth for my Daughters of Khaine to slaughter. I don’t care if GW claim they’re supposed to be allies or not, my Morathi’s girls know who their real enemy is. And the Slaaneshis are their natural allies on my tabletop. Slaanesh ate lots of Dark Elves you say? Well, the devotees of the Lord of Murder should be able to appreciate that as an achievement. — And ya gotta admit the thought of army reps from the Witch Elves and the Daemonettes ahem “liasoning” is pretty damned hot. I say GW should bring… Read more »
I was wondering if GW had learned from their massive failure to “re-imagine” the High Elves, but apparently they’re gonna double down on everything that makes the Lumineth Realm-lords embarrassing. They can barely shift this faction, and the high prices on them don’t help.
The rest of the stuff deserves a round of applause, but is mostly considered but basically the same Warhammer Fantasy stuff. The stormcast is amazing though. Well done whoever made him.
Have GW released sales figures by each faction? How do you know that they aren’t selling?
Best to ignore him when it comes to GW, he very rarely has anything positive to say about GW, and AoS in particular. If ever he does say something positive it’s always a backhanded compliment at best. I don’t think he really got over the cancelation of Warhammer Fantasy Battle.
I suspect they are selling and selling well enough for GW to continue to make kits for them. If they weren’t they wouldn’t bother to waste time on them.
You’ve got to admit though there is literally nothing original about most of the races in AoS, Lumineth either remind players of High Elves or Craftworld, we’ve now got two “aspects” to go alongside the new reinforcements from Hoeth, Stormcast ARE high fantasy Space Marines, Kharadron are Squats, Cities of Sigmar are basically Imperial Guard, even the miniatures are old just like most of the Guard range is, I’m a former WHFB player and I actually like the look of AoS but you don’t need to be a genuis to question the faction design choices, not to mention how some… Read more »
There’s very little that’s original anywhere. Everything is influenced by something else. Whether it’s pop culture or just previous miniature lines.
And I agree with you, I would even go as far as so say the odd tip of the cap back to the WHFB would go a ways to soothing egos like our original commenter but you have to admit this is just a bit lazy by GW, not surprising I’ll admit but very lazy, and I does still feel as though they’re more biased towards some armies than others, they could do a lot more either factions like Kharadron Overlords, Ironjawz, Fyreslayers I mean aside from a few new spells and terrain piece and a new character I can’t… Read more »
And craftworlds are high elves but in space, and high elves are Tolkien elves but dumbed down by GW, space marines are medieval knights but in space, squats are tolkien dwarves but in space, and imperial guard are just NPCs for everything else, like all human factions in fantasy ever (you have to be lobotomized to want to play basic humans when you can play anything else, but that’s not related to this topic). GW doesn’t have a single original bone to their body, never had. The Old World was literally “some nerds half-remembered european history, but the germans have… Read more »
Can you name someone who DOES have an original bone in their body? Almost all fantasy and sci-fi is derived from or inspired by something else whether that be history or other IPs. Even Tolkien was not really original, his works being inspired by Anglo-Sexon and Celtic mythology.
Not sure I agree with the craftworlds/high elves analysis I think in terms of lore they have some similarities but in terms of actual playstyle they’re completely different, not sure why you mentioned space marines and squats exclusive of their AoS analogues but I get the references and agree with them, my comment about Cities of Sigmar and Imp Guard was about how they’ve just shoehorned the old fantasy minis into the new game and made an army to suit and the similarity with IG is that all of their minis are at least 5-10 years old, I mean from… Read more »
Because pretty much all of the 40k factions have grown out of fantasy races. When people refer to the Eldar as “Space Elves” they are quite literally that – 40k started out with conversion kits for fantasy miniatures to make them into sci-fi miniatures. The Space Marines were originally knights, the Eldar were Elves. the Squats were Dwarfs. Most 40k races have a fantasy cognate of some kind with similar aesthetic thems, although their lore may differ somewhat
New Lumineth releases; cue GW fanbase bitching in 3…2…1… yup, there it is. Though of all these models, I’m most impressed with the Stormcast; his pose is really dynamic and helps to set him apart from the others!
Loving the Scinari Calligrave, Lyrior and the Vanari Bladelords! The shrine is also very cool. Ellania and Ellathor gave me a chuckle, with their onesies; I would definitely paint those with a matching teddy bear scheme!
EDIT: For the record, I’d leave every single glorious millimeter on the Lumineth helmets. Dress to impress!
There is alot of Monkey Magic happening with Windmage
Yes, I thought so too! I wonder whether he uses the fan for steering the cloud ;p In all honesty, pretty cool model.
I love that Wight King. Some of the Lumineth are a bit too bonkers for me but I think anyone collecting them will have a magnificent looking army on the table.
The Lumineth are so much fun. I love what GW has actually done with the army rather than just caving to people who long for Fantasy styles. The hats are brilliant, the dynamics of many of the sculpts is brilliant, the diversity from the norm is amazing. They are everything I would have wanted from a High Fantasy Elf army!
I really don’t like the Lumineth Realm-lords… Again, it’s all over the place… If you want to dry some clothes while on the battlefield, think of the Vanari Bladelords… I do like the Shrine Luminor though: might pick this up and mod it to be a full rock face to put on edges of maps…
I like Krulghast Cruciator and Gardus Steel Soul (the pose not so much though) and i’ll be adding them to my AoS armies!
So the lumineth have been designed to open/widen oriental markets?
I think its more accidental racism.
I’ll take one each of the Lumineth, trim the stilts off that one bloke because ankle injuries are no joke, the Stormcast for the missus and the Wight King because, well look at it, classic beauty at it’s finest.
I do wonder how much weight is put through the waterfall on the shine model. I’d be keen to attempt to replace those with some poured resin or water effects.
It looks easy enough to trim off all the head dress stuff, I think I may add some of these to my generic elf army that I use for games like Oathmark.
Whittling off some of the sillier stuff would leave you an excellent wizard. I’m using the North Start elves so he wouldn’t fit mine, but there’s a great mini beneath all the baubles.
I love the terrain piece! Dead dudes look awesome, Savage orc looks like he’s cosplaying a lightning claw terminator, but they look nice too (nothing new there though). I like some elements of the Luminoth, but I’m just not that taken with the art direction… since someone compared the visual style to Anime, it’s all I can see… (they totally would have “Emo” dialogue and would go from softly spoken to screaming a random sentence and having exaggerated reactions to everything for no apparent reason at all). Piss-taking aside, I think a less clean look might help, they look more… Read more »
Apart from the increasingly impractical helmets I don’t mind the new Lumineth range. What does annoy me though is that the Lumineth army book is less than a year old and is now going to be replaced by a new one. It’s finally snapped me out of the “buy every army book” habit.
Not everything is for everyone, I totally get that and I totally encourage that. But people mocking the direction being taken with the Lumineth regarding oversized head gear clearly haven’t been paying attention to the GW High Elves for the last 30 years. Massive Helmets has ALWAYS been the High Elf schtick, the only thing that’s really changing is that the elaborate decoration previously limited to characters like Tyrion, Teclis, Imrik and Eltharion is now being applied to the whole range. Seriously, check out the original OOP miniatures from the 90’s and tell me those helmets are any more practical… Read more »
THANK YOU voice of reason!!!
You’re not wrong. I think Lyrior Uthralle’s helmet design in particular is a refinement of Eltharion’s helmet design, i suppose using better technology and processes that seem (to my eye, going by the pictures) to have resulted in Lyrior’s helmet having thinner, finer feathers and details. Nonetheless, i find a lot of the Lumineth’s helmets to be a bit silly, as i did Eltharion’s and Tyrion’s back in the 1990s, though i suppose i was more forgiving of such things in the 1990s because the choice(s) were limited and i presumed at the time that it (the silly helmets and… Read more »
There was no excuse for it in the 90s beyond stylistic choice. If anything it would have been much easier to make a less elaborate helmet. But oversized, elaborate headgear has always been part of the High Elf range, the new Lumineth are simply carrying on a tradition.
In fact, looking back, Empire and Bretonian knights weren’t far behind either.
“Massive Helmets has ALWAYS been the High Elf schtick” This is just false though. You’ve picked out 3 of the oldest models, and not the new Tyrion or Teclis models whose head dresses were toned down in their newer sculpts and at any rate are basically feathers. The rest of the entre range bar a few oddities (the very first Tiranoc Chariot! the plastic HQ kit) have perhaps elaborate but functional helmets and feathers etc. Anyone is free to just google the entire range of High Elves and see none of them have this level of absurdity. They CERTAINLY do… Read more »
I’ve started playing WHFB in mid-5th ed. Stupid helmets were the one thing that always stopped me from getting HE army (and I was a kid that had 500 pts of half the armies in existence…) and the lumineth are no different in this regard.
As for Empire and Brets helmets, some of them had metal eagles mounted on their hemets with wingspan nearly as much as their wearers’ arms (mostly the heroes). Meanwhile dwarfs and chaos had horned helmets, when in reality those decorations were 100% limited to non-functional display armor only and also pretty stupidly large.
It’s a style thing, it’s not for everyone; I would say my tastes have moved away from that but back in the early 90s I used to love High Elves
It’s demonstrably true that they had massive helmets, I even provided you with pictorial evidence! You are correct that I did deliberately choose old models – because if I chose new models that wouldn’t really indicate a historical trend, would it? But here’s Tyrion v2.0… http://www.greenstuffworld.com/creative/imagenes-proyecto/cc39d44242fe7daafc0ec6f85408952bb0857c4d6872143240116.jpg Same massive helmet. Here’s the Island of Blood High Elf Prince on Gryphon from 2010… http://www.coolminiornot.com/pics/pics16/img578892909c25b.jpg Same massive helmet. High Elves have always had that theme, they may not have had giant bull horns but they have always had hugely impractical head gear, especially on their character models. You can try and argue that… Read more »
I quite like the look of the spirit of the wind one.I don’t have a use for it and woukd be terrified of trying to transport it anywhere but the design idea is nice
… and the reward for the most ridiculous headdress goes to…
Eltharion on Stormwing?
Possibly… honourable mention for most impractical!
Some of the LRL are nice, but a lot miss the mark for me. The kung-fu pajmas aren’t as nice as the long coats worn by the 1st wave vanari, and the curse of the dumb helmets continues (I’m fine with elaborate helmets, I’m not fine with helmets as larg as the torso of the wearer).
On the other hand the shrine is AMAZING and I love it and I want it.
Oh, and Gardus being released is nice, 1st non-Hammers of Sigmar named hero yet!
The undead are killer to say the least
