Meet The Ulfenwatch Of Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
February 5, 2021 by brennon
Games Workshop are continuing to preview more from their upcoming game, Warhammer Quest: Cursed City. This week, we got a look at The Ulfenwatch, the undead guards of Ulfenkarn that wander the streets and "keep the peace".

The leader of the Ulfenwatch is one Oleksander Halgrim. Once a mortal seeking to gain the Soulblight Curse, he joined the purge of the nobility within the walls of the city. His fellow officers did not take kindly to that and threw him into a sewer to be eaten alive. He was then raised anew as a Deathrattle Officer and, whilst a soulless killer, he is now the leader of the Ulfenwatch.
The ranks of the Ulfenwatch are made up of more poor souls who met their end within the walls of the city. Gorslav The Gravekeeper, whom we've met before, has broken open tombs and coffins and filled their ranks with these rather excellent looking skeleton warriors.

I really, really like these models. I think the folks at Games Workshop have done a stunning job on these miniatures and I really like the story they are already trying to tell around the Cursed City. Games Workshop has really started to have fun with the idea of negative space and you can see that here with added depth to these undead warriors.
Now, the streets of Ulfenkarn are given over to these merciless killers who watch over the beleaguered populace. I really liked this piece of artwork they shared which gives us a look at what the Cursed City looks like during the day as well as during the night!

One of the cool things about these updates is that they've been sharing them from the perspective of "Cursed City Crier" which is reminiscent of the Town Crier of old who wandered the streets of Mordheim, another cursed city from a time long, long ago. There are real echoes of Mordheim about this in its tone and I am eager to learn more about the gameplay.
I am encouraged by the fact that Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress has come out with a pretty good rating online and I imagine a lot of what they learned there has fed into this game. I am hoping that this will be the case with Cursed City at least!
What do you think of these new miniatures?

Have GW announced a release date at all? The skellies look really good, and this version of WHQ is growing increasingly tempting.
No date as of yet. They are going to be doing weekly reveals so I would imagine at least two months down the line.
It’s good to get a look at the minis that will sit untouched in my cupboard for several years…
They would look great with a green hue like the ghost army in LotRs.
Those look really nice.
Gotta say this is the most interesting thing to come out of GW for years. Really lovely models and a bit of a departure from their usual heroic styling.
This will be something I really can’t wait to get from GW in a very long time. I’m also looking forward to seeing what The Old World will bring. I hope it fits in with this design style, too.
I like the skeletons, though they do look quite big even for ‘heroic’ 28mm. I didn’t think i’d be writing this about Games Workshop miniatures, but in terms of actually looking like skeletons and having true(r) to scale bones, i think it’s between these and the Black Scorpion pirates. I think i’d like to see them with a less cartoonish paint scheme.
Absolutely love these, everything about this game so far has me excited. I really hope any expansions they release are proper range items though. The BSF stuff disappeared and is insanely priced on Ebay.
These are great skeletons, can’t wait to see some more hopefully some new zombies.
The zombies they teased in the little animation do look pretty good!
The more I look on Etsy the less inclined I am to pick up GW stuff. The 3D printed models available there look twice as good for about a quarter of the price.
