Three New Warhammer Board Games From Games Workshop
February 4, 2021 by brennon
Games Workshop has showcased three new board games which are going to be released throughout 2021 for both Warhammer Age Of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000. We start in the Mortal Realms with Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Bladeborn.
Bladeborn // Age Of Sigmar

Bladeborn is a two-player game which uses two warbands from Warhammer Underworlds. In this quick brawler, Khagra’s Ravagers clash with the Godsworn Hunt as they seek to become favoured in the eyes of Archaon The Everchosen.

The game looks similar in style to the likes of Warhammer Underworlds but is a more focused experience. The idea, I would guess, it to play it a couple of times with your friends, switching sides as you do, to see who comes out on top. You could maybe even use the board, even with the hexes, as the backdrop to some clash in a different game too.
Space Marine Adventures: Doomsday Countdown
The next game shifts the focus away from the Mortal Realms and instead ventures into a grimdark world instead. The first game is a cooperative experience for one-to-three players where Space Marines must try and hold out against the dread forces of the Necrons.

You play as Space Marines trying to fight their way through a Hive City which has been overrun by Chaos Cultists. You have to try and stop them from activating a terrifying weapon which could doom the world.

The game has been designed so its easier for younger gamers and comes with a set of push-fit miniatures so you can get gaming very quickly. Games take around half an hour to forty minutes to play meaning that you can get a couple of these into an evening. I could see this being a fun way to get kids playing in the world of Warhammer 40,000, especially if the price point is right.
Warhammer 40,000: Fireteam
The last game is a competitive arena shooter for two players which again features the Space Marines and the Necrons.
Fireteam // Warhammer 40,000
Again, Fireteam has been designed as a quick and easy entry-level game for those wanting to play Warhammer 40,000 without buying a whole army. It's focused around a clash between the two factions during the Indomitus Crusade.

Again, the game looks good and I could see it being a nice way for someone to play games within the world of Warhammer 40,000 without all of the army building and masses of painting. Maybe you could even use some of the rules they use in these smaller games to play some of the larger gaming experiences in the grimdark future?
It isn't explicitly said in their article whether or not these are going to be available ONLY through the likes of Barnes & Noble but I would be wary of getting your hopes up that we'll be able to find these readily in the UK and Europe. I guess we shall wait and see!
Are you going to be taking a closer look at these games?

Hexagon is the new square.
Hexagons are the Bestagons
I suspect these all that barnes and noble crap so only available in the colonies like blitzbowl and those other kiddie games they did with marines.
The do look like the dumbed down versions for retail.
That’s sadly what it’s seeming like… I don’t even understand the audience or motive behind these games. If you want to get kids into 40K, Blood Bowl, or fantasy…then you just get them into 40K, Blood Bowl or Fantasy, don’t bother with these lame board games. At my local GW, there’s a whole group of kids that come in to play 40K regularly, and they don’t bother with these kiddie releases as they love having these huge armies and rulesets to play with.
If they’re as fun as the rest of their games I’ll pass.
Doomsday countdown looks A LOT like the rather fun Lost Patrol
That’s what I thought when I saw it. Lost Patrol is what got my son engaged with the 40k universe, and I thought was pretty good fun.
Interesting looking game’s the doomsday game could be great for Calth game lover’s super sizeing up with chaos marines and beasts.
Meh, meh and meh.
Zooming in on the Bladeborn character cards, they look exactly like WarCry cards. I think it’s more likely to be a “lite” version of WarCry.
Is it just me, or Doomsday Countdown looks like a game the did 2-3 years ago with Tyranids and space marines scouts? Ah yes, reading the other comments as i write this, it seems so!
I doubt will see this in Canada anyway…
