Forge World Reveal The Dark Archmagos Draykavac!
September 9, 2014 by brennon
Forge World have revealed another addition to their Horus Heresy line and this time the character is from the Mechanicum part of the Imperium. See what you think of Archmagos Draykavac!
For a bit of a low down on who he actually is...
"The treacherous Archmagos Draykavac had a fearsome reputation throughout the Imperium, thinking nothing of sacrificing thousands of lives to further his knowledge and understanding of the arcane arts of the Omnissiah. When the Horus Heresy broke out, Draykavac revealed his dark allegiance to Warmaster Horus, his loyalty bought with the promise of access to technologies long forbidden by the Emperor."
I'm not entirely sure I actually like the model however. The pedestal he is on is nice enough and it certainly has the Warhammer feel to it adorned with skulls and plenty of pageantry but the actual model of Draykavac doesn't excite me that much. He doesn't look particularly threatening or commanding like you'd I'd assume he would. Even though he isn't a straight up combatant I don't get a sense of menace from him.
Maybe you see more in Draykavac than I do?

Erm. Who is in charge of art direction at the moment. I think he should be renamed Peter Fourtyfive
I normally like Forgeworld’s stuff, including their Mechanicum range, but this sculpt just doesn’t work for me. The concept is strong, and feels suitably weirdly gothic and Imperial, as well as appropriate for the strange mix of technological transhumanism and mysticism that makes up the imagery surrounding the Mechanicum in the background. But for all that, the execution of this particular peice just feels off to me.
Maybe it will grow on me over time.
Erm….no thanks.
Who approved the head on that model? What a let down. Everything else was really strong but they go and stick a bland animal skull on it? Total muppets. Poor from FW that.
Totally agree. At first I couldn’t believe fw even allowed that head to be cast. But then I read there wad a spare head and in the very last picture on their website is the model with the alternative head. Certainly makes the model more presentable
The skull is the symbol of Inar Satarael’s legion, we haven’t got much background for Draykavac but I imagine he’s a member of the legion.
It’s a great sculpt, it’s a nice atmospheric piece… it’s completely over the top with the skulls and adeptus thingies and eighties technology, but that’s exactly what 40k is all about… I don’t like it, but it’s completely consistent with the setting and range (side pants marines in darth vader masks holding mfuture machineguns and travelling in big square garbage container with skulls and cathedral spires), so I don’t see why it shouldn’t sell like hot cakes.
Quick, everyone! Buy one, regardless of how ugly it is or how much it costs! It will keep you home from the bar this month lol.
Rat on a stick and a gothic Faberge egg imo…
The instrument panel is the best part.
I like the Matrix elements well enough, but in keeping with GW (rather than FW) there are some nice parts but they don’t add up to a whole.
The design mission to throw as much at a model as possible to impress will do its job well enough.
To me however it looks like a pulpit has been pimped out to look like the stern of a pirate ship and for extra value is an industrial cleaning machine.
So, what are the rules for the Shake and Vac? 😛
More of a gothic Zamboni, but I see your point. You could easily put a floor polisher underneath it.
I don’t understand this mini at all. Is that a pulpit he’s riding?
Love him ! Though I prefer the hooded generic Magus Prime option. Would add some more of those tentacle servo skulls on top of the plattform to make it more of a buisy thang.
The animal skull I can swallow, but its the hair kind of reminds me of the female Frankenstein…
I dunno
They kind of look like dreads which is cool.
Maybe knit him a red, gold and green wooly hat
I really quite like it 😛
… purely just because it’s a bit weird I guess 😛
… I like weird things 😉 ha ha
would have been better if you could buy it separate from the floaty thing though …
He’ll probably show up at a bits site, or on Ebay soon enough.
Think this guy looks pretty cool actually, in a weird odd way … id prefer a gun/cannon instead of that axe. Damn im tired of seeing swords and axes in the far future..
