Fireforge Games Release New Western Knights Plastic Kit
January 18, 2021 by brennon
Fireforge Games has now released their Western Knights plastic kit for you to dive into. If you're playing the likes of Deus Vult and taking to the battlefields of the Crusades or just clashing in Medieval Europe, these should be a good fit for 28mm battles.
Western Knights // Fireforge Games
This set comes with the options to make twelve 28mm multi-part plastic Western Knights atop their barded horses. Across the sprues you've got plenty of options for weapons, shields, heads and accessories.
Western Knights Knight Sprue // Fireforge Games
This sprue above shows off an array of those options. As well as a few different styles of shield you've also got those big lances next to swords, hammer, flails, maces and axes. These Knights then sit happily atop these charging mounts.

Even with their barding and such, these horses are still going to be my nemesis I reckon! At least the way they have been designed you won't be trying to reach into all manner of small places to make sure they are painted!
It's worth taking a peek at some of the example miniatures that have been painted from the set down below. This gives you a good look at some of the schemes you could try out yourself.
Western Knight Example // Fireforge Games
I like the Knights themselves and the options that have been designed for them but the horses look a bit odd to me. It might just be the way they've been painted but they look like they have longer faces than normal!
Western Knight Example // Fireforge Games
It's neat to see a good mix of options in there for their bodies and helmets though and I like that the horses are posed as if they are charging into battle. Nothing worse than having a cavalry regiment charging into a game looking like they're cantering across a parade ground!
Are you going to be snapping up these Western Knights for your army?

Very nice indeed
These are the old kits with new head oprions.
The date on the sprue is a bit of a give away
I knew I’d seen them somewhere. Well, blow me down. Enjoy the new heads I guess.
? Lol ?
Hey, I mean, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I think the new head options are cool and the kit looks like it would be great for wargaming the albiguensian crusade, or maybe like someone else stated, the barons’ war.
Coincidence they release this just as Footsore release the Baron’s war ruleset? I think not!
Anyone want to comment on whether these are historically suitable or not for that period (1215–1217 or 1264–1267)?
cool, can’t go wrong with more knights!
Ooh good well get a knight out now then.?
@brennon barding is horse armor. The cloth covering is a caparison. All those flat lines will make them a little tricky to paint but could be a worthwhile painting challenge. I think I want to paint the knights up as 40k Primarchs.
The head of the 2nd painted up horse looks weird although could be due to the Caparison being shorter than the other one. The bare headed horse looks OK.
@brennon Don’t listen to them, there specially designed curtains for horses so you can’t see their naughty bits
