IDF mechanized company
First mechanised platoons and support
I will go with 2 small mech platoons for 50pts so this will need 7 M113.
As support I choose 2 M163 VADS anti air vehicles, which can be of good use vs lightly armoured vehicles aswell.
It seems like Infantry is still not available so while waiting I will get my hands on a single M113 sprue for the HQ unit.
Since Im now nearly done with my base 50pts force the next step would be to choose which units I will buy for 75pts.
I can go with:
Full unit of Pereh. Those are great for counter artillery and clearing of some AA units aswell as the obvious anti tank role.
Conras and Vads will be brought to each 4 teams while one infantry platoon will get full strength. Last I will get a Redeye unit.
The IDF is what got me into the wonderful world of tanks. The Merkava 1 & 2 are my favourite tanks. I will not be getting into more wargames this year, but I will definitily be plunging into Team Yankee with the IDF in 2022 ( if we are still here). So I will be following your blog and great work with a lot of envy.
Thanks. The Merkava is the only reason for me to be back to Team Yankee. Such a cool tank design. I thought about building an entire Merkava 2 tank company at the beginning but switched to an mech company with an Merkava platoon as my favorite centerpiece. Regarding the money I have to spend on a mech company compared to a tank force maybe not the best choice but its an more challenging project to play and master.
@miniaturebrushwork – Great work on an interesting and sparcely-covered topic / period. I wonder if you have an opponent / friend with some Syrian, PLO, or Hezbollah forces you’ll put these badasses up against. Beqqa Valley, Lebanon, 1982 perhaps? 😀
Great work again.
Thanks, sadly I have only a soviet and american opponent.
I think the soviets are pretty close to syrians but thats all I guess ?
Soviet T-54/55s will be fine for 1982 Hezbollah and PLO/A forces, while T-62s and T-72s will be fine for Syrians along the Damascus-Beirut Highway. BTR-60 troop carriers as well. **IF** you decide to game down this route, just make sure the opponent uses the export stats for the T-72 (namely the T-72M), not the “native” Soviet T-72. The same minis can be used, but the M export has some lower values to reflect sights, fire control computers, and available ammunition. I mean you’ll win no matter what, since no one is gonna want to shoot at these gorgeous and well-painted… Read more »
I think my soviet opponent will fielt T-64 which will lead to highly ahistorical szenarios.
Maybe if we can establish Team Yankee a bit more in our wargaming community someone will play a T-62 or T-55 company. Is the masses on tanks you can field there which I frear the most?
