I was impressed by the contents of the starter box, until is saw the price. That’s a big pile of money.

And the thought of painting 3000 minis, albeit stuck to each other in 10’s is daunting.

Maybe if it was a more interesting war I’d consider it, but the american civil war does not appeal.

The range looks pretty good, but the 13.5mm size is very off-putting. To my knowledge, there’s very few other ranges that are comparable, which is a hard barrier to expanding a collection by tapping into what alternative manufacturers have (the cynic in me wonders whether that’s exactly the point).

I think the cynic in me would agree @scribbs

However … every company with their own game/eco-system does this to some degree.
I suspect part of it is an attempt at creating a vendor-lock-in and part is a lack of standards for scaling as no one can agree on what size and proportions are supposed to be used.

It’s a shame so few scale model companies produce minis for this sort of stuff.

Anyways … options are good and seeing starter kits for any (miniatures based) wargame always makes me happy.
I wonder what other eras they will do after this one as the scale does allow for bigger battles in practically all of the eras they currently support.

I do think it’s maybe aimed at the sheep who think that you can only play the game using Warlord Games branded figures

People have been playing BP in smaller scales since it came out

I’ve only played BP in 15mm. In terms of gaming tables, painting and especially storage, 15mm is way more viable for us who don’t do wargaming as profession.

@limburger Agreed that more starter sets is only a good thing, and I do appreciate that Warlord have produced different coloured sprues for the Union and Confederates.

@torros when you’re getting into a hobby it is really convenient to have everything at a single store.
Sure there’s loads of options, especially in this setting, but the main thing for these sorts of kits is also that little Johnny can tell his parents/grandparents/friends what to buy for Christmas without having to direct them to some obscure website that date back to the 1800’s …

It does suck that people tend to stick to a single manufacturer, but the entire industry is to blame for that because they don’t exactly use the same proportions and scaling.

I’m kind of surprised that Warlord may be the first to actually offer a starter set for this era in this scale.

The way I read it the 13.5 mm is to eye level. So to the top of the head it would be 15mm, right?

And don’t most 15mm minis measure to the top of the head? I should hasten to add that the only 15mm miniatures I have are for By Fire & Sword if that makes a difference.

And a $120 two player starter is too much? Seems pretty reasonable to me. Now the $280 (discounted to $252) all in with terrain, etc is a bit pricey.

ACW gaming is not my thing but it’s an interesting historical period and worthy of a look. As for this game system, I’ll probably pass.

@blipvertus figure size is usually measured from foot to eye so a 15mm figure should be 15mm from foot to eye level.

I like the ACW but I’ve already got a lot of 6mm stuff so I might get a starter set just to support the move to smaller scales and see how the minis look. Painting 15mm strips will be a bit different, at 6mm you can get away with a lot of blobs and line but 15mm not so much especially for the Confederates.

I hope they do this for a few more periods, I think people would love some 15mm Plastic Napoleonics and it could be the gateway they’re looking for.

@elessar2590 The problem is going to be base frontages and how easy the strips can be divided as not everyone thinks BP is a decent set of rules

Some scale pics I found on Facebook. It looks like they are 15mm to the eye once you take the base and puddle into account.
