Community Spotlight: The Spires, Slasher Killers & Doctor Who!
December 23, 2020 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
The Spires Army by ulverbite
We start off with the Community Spotlight for this week with a look at what ulverbite has been doing to join us on the Path Of Conquest. Here he has been working on a rather fantastic looking Spires army which brings together some nice colour choices.
This starting point for his collection looks fantastic and it blends together that bone-coloured style that we've come to know from The Spires with something different too. I love the dose of red that has been included in there which ties the army together, especially on the Brutes at the back. The weathering across the collection also works very nice indeed and shows them as a battle-scarred army.
As a whole, this is an impressive look at what you can do with The Spires when it comes to starting an army in Conquest. I really liked how the Pheromancer turned out as well with that bright mix of colours throughout the robes and up to that glowing staff. This is a really cool grimdark scheme which reminds me very much of the art that we've seen for the game.
I really like the basing too which is just about right. I think it does enough to frame the miniatures without taking focus away from the miniatures atop them. I can't wait to see what else ulverbite is going to be doing when it comes to expanding this Spires army in the future!
Don't Look Back Killer by chaosgorka
Next up, we're looking to the work of chaosgorka who has shown off a rather fun little snapshot of what they are working on for Don't Look Back by Black Site Studio. This is one of the killers from the game which has been painted up exceptionally well (as always!)
This is a bloodthirsty looking killer which I think looks hauntingly dangerous. I love that the miniature as a whole is very dark and brooding with just a little bit of colour here and there to break up the scheme. The mask looks great and I like the splatter of blood across the knife too.
This is just a starting point for the Don't Look Back collection that chaosgorka has in their collection it seems but it certainly has us interested! The natural basing style also works well against the miniature and you could imagine him stalking out of the woods to hunt down some teenagers. Make sure to go and check out some of the scenery from the collection too.
Doctor Who by hairybrains
We finish things off with hairybrains who has been painting their way through the Doctor Who collection by Warlord Games for their miniatures game. They have been working through all of the Doctors from throughout time and there are some excellent paint jobs in here.
All of the miniatures have been painted up to match their onscreen characters and this means that we have a massive amount of difference when it comes to colours. I love that we've got some darker schemes in here alongside those which are brimming with contrasting colours.
I love seeing a project like this which has a very defined start and endpoint. Here, hairybrains has snapped up a pack of miniatures and slowly but surely worked through all of them to produce a fascinating collection which can be displayed and/or used in games.
I particularly liked the take on the current Doctor which got added in recently, especially with the rainbow which has been picked out on her top.
As you might imagine, there are a lot of additional Doctors for you to go and check out on the project linked above. If you're a Whovian then let us know which is your favourite Doctor!

Congrats all!
Well done everyone Sterling work all around Merry Christmas to you and your Golden Buttons ?
Great choices as always, and especially love the doctor who, great painting though I think the models are from the gale force nine game ‘time of the daleks’, and my favourite doctors are 7th and 8th, though 13th is also shaping up well
