Check Out The Bardsung Kickstarter Here
Steamforged Games has come to the tabletop with a new dungeon-delving experience which is focused on living out the adventures and narrative moments of a game like Dungeons & Dragons alongside the choice and consequence of a Choose Your Own Adventure book plus much more besides.
All of this comes together alongside a host of fascinating mechanics to provide you with a quest packed with beautiful miniatures, artwork and plenty of ways to spend months and years!
Bardsung Core Box Contents // Steamforged Games
If you're interested in the gameplay mechanics and development choices made when exploring the world of Bardsung ahead of the Kickstarter campaign then you can go and check out the Steamforged Games Blog where they have been discussing a lot about the game already.
The team have discussed plenty of elements of gameplay including movement, fighting, exploring and more. I was particularly impressed by the way that dungeons and encounters are generated in the game and how that affects the ways you approach quests. You've also got a selection of heroes that all play and develop in different ways meaning that you always feel like you have something to give to the group.
Bardsung Demo Game // Steamforged Games
Some interesting selling points about the game that we've learned already is that it can be played solo or with up to five heroes and it never needs a Games Master to control the fun. Everything is governed by the game and its inbuilt A.I. In addition to this, Bardsung also spans an epic fifty-plus hour during the course of its campaign making it a pretty intense journey to begin with your group. Maybe if you've experienced Gloomhaven and the like then you'll be familiar with the scope of a game like Bardsung!
Pledge Option For Bardsung
If you're interested in diving into Bardsung then you can get stuck in with this simple option from the Kickstarter.
Bardsung Hero Pledge // Steamforged Games
There is quite a lot for you to get stuck into with this campaign I think you'll agree! Here is a look at what's inside the box in full...
Bardsung Hero Pledge Contents // Steamforged Games
Make sure to dive in and explore more about the game as part of the Kickstarter Page. There are some seriously cool miniatures here for those who love their plastic, especially if you've been picking up the Epic Encounters Sets recently by Steamforged Games.
Bardsung Stretch Goals & More Coming Soon!
As well as what is being included as part of the Kickstarter as it fires up there are also plenty of options for you to work towards as a backer which are due to be unlocked. Make sure to get stuck in with the campaign and tell us what you think of what they've introduced as part of the overall Bardsung experience.

18 months until shipping seems a long time. Sounds even worse when it’s listed as May 2022.
Most 12 month ks slip to 18 months at least. I hope this is a realistic 18 months and not optimistic one.
I can understand when a new company ks a project and need the funds to get started, but an established company (and a lot of ks are established company’s now… mythic, monolith, privateer press, cmon… it’s a long list) should have most of the prep work done already, so you’d assume that all that had to do is manufacture.
Yep. If it was not such a long wait I would jump in just to use the minis for D&D.
Even ‘established’ companies need money for new projects … and you seriously underestimate the amount of resources even the ‘big’ companies in this hobby have. GW is probably the only one that could afford to do a new project like this without asking for ‘extra’ from outsiders. CMON is the only one that I know has a consistent set of games available at retail .. and at 100+$ it’s not exactly something that will make record sales every month. As for deadline … I’d rather have a realistic deadline that is missed by a couple of weeks instead of a… Read more »
They already have the rules. They have renders for the minis and the cardboard components are already prototyped for the virtual demo… so the bulk of the work is done.
I just don’t see why they need 18 months to manufacture if the majority of the game is done.
There’s pretty much no penalty for being late on a KS. SFG could just give you a bogus date and sucker you into believing them. RE3 was supposed to be delivered in June, and DMC in July.
As for rules written ahead… Can’t trust ’em. That’s part of the reason why most of my backed KS are miniatures.
Oh, just noticed 32mm scale so not much use for D&D. Seems a bit of a daft choice tbh.
I don’t think it’s going to make that much of a difference – you’ll probably find it’s only a smidge out.
Base sizes look okay scale for D&D, would be interesting to see some of the minis side-by-side.
“We want to get your rewards into your hands as soon as possible. Because of the potential for unexpected effects on planning and production schedules, there’s a chance you might not get your rewards before the game is available at retail. We’ve packed the core pledge with value for money and Kickstarter exclusives to compensate for any potential delays.”
So I back this, have to wait until May 2022, pay high postage…and also have the fun of seeing this in shops potentially cheaper and earlier. LOL.
I have backed for the momen… But you’re right about the price. When you consider most online retailers discount (and with covid we don’t have much choice, but to buy online) and the fact that many retailers do free postage… the ks exclusives need to be something special to keep me involved. And seeing it at retail before you get your pledge is bloody annoying. Backers make it possible and their reward is to get the product last!!! That’s like programming in Forth…. First in, last out… [and that’s probably the most obscure reference you’ll see today… assuming I am… Read more »
if you’re backing just to get it ‘early’ then you’re missing the point of kickstarters … It’s nice to get it before ‘retail’, but it is unrealistic considering the logistics of shipping to dedicated retail outlets vs individual customers. If they have a retail pledge then that might be the reason you saw it in shops before non-retail backers got theirs. If you don’t mind ‘missing out’ on the kickstarter exclusives then I wouldn’t back it to be honest. It is funded and it will get done. Availability will be tricky, because it’s not going to be the kind of… Read more »
Yep. Nowadays, KS is the deluxe, limited edition, like first-day video game releases that you stand in line overnight for and pay a premium. The “free” SG’s aren’t free, since you pay for postage and don’t get the retail discount. If you’re on the fence or only want the base game and can wait, better that you wait for retail. Particularly, Amazon discounts are pretty good. as well as Miniature Market clearance. I’m backing more miniatures from small companies whose mini’s don’t show up at MM, much less Amazon, and are almost never discounted. Or, better yet, wait until 3D… Read more »
Badly bitten on the Dark Souls KS so I start off very wary, then I find that I am being misled. Where are the Bards?
For that reason I’m out…???????
A fabulous advert an a great fun looking game.
Shame there is no ‘miniatures only’ pledge.
