Mortal Realms Arena by carlospictor

We start off this week's collection of Community Spotlight awesomeness with a project from carlospictor who put together quite the impressive terrain project. Here we have a Playmobil Colosseum which has been turned into a function piece of gaming terrain for the Mortal Realms and Age Of Sigmar.

carlospictor has quite the history with taking things that really shouldn't work as hobby products and turning them into something fun and different. We saw the work on an Ork Stompa a year or so ago and now this arena shows off that you can make something seriously awesome out of some toy kits.

The Arena has been designed so that it should work for games like Warcry and Warhammer Underworlds and has been upgraded with plenty of characterful elements which take it from toy to something impressive and in-world.

Loads of details have been worked into every facet of this terrain piece with little shields, icons, banners and statues popping up throughout its design. There are so many little things that you want to go and peek at and I love that with a terrain piece. It's always rewarding to be able to dive in and notice something new each time you come back to a piece that you're playing in or on.

The interior of the arena has plenty of those details with the remains of unfortunate combatants piled against the walls and splashes of dirty and blood across its surface. You could really see this popping up in a city which perhaps finds itself closer to the barbaric corners of the Mortal Realms.

I like the idea that it was once part of a glorious City Of Sigmar and it was used to test the might of the Stormcast Eternals. Now it has been turned into a brawling pit where any hard case can test himself for a handful of coin. It is well worth diving into the project link above for lots more images and details about the project.

The Bloody Espinosas by hazyboy75

Next up we're moving away from the Mortal Realms and heading to an equally weird and wonderful setting. hazyboy75 has been working away on some new models for Wild West Exodus and has expanded their collection with The Bloody Espionsas.

Much like with the rest of their painting, hazyboy75 has put together some very in-depth painting guides for each of the characters that you see here. There is plenty to explore as part of the project link above as they show off the paints used throughout all stages, the techniques used and how it all comes together into the final product.

I think these are some really characterful models from Wild West Exodus and it's fun to see such a detailed breakdown on how they got tabletop ready!

I really like just how much colour you can get into the warband thanks to that Mexican influence. You've got light pinks and purples, deep reds and browns and then a flash of blue too. You've also got the monstrous Vivian at the back there and I really like how those pustules have popped on the miniature! They look suitably sore and weeping!

T’au Kill Team by neves1789

The last project is from the grimdark future of Warhammer 40,000 as we got a peek at what neve1789 has been working on recently. I was immediately captured by the exceptionally bright pink that was used on this T'au Kill Team.

Pink isn't a colour that you often see worked into a miniature collection to this degree, especially for the grimdark future. So, it was a pleasant surprise to see this here and I think it really suits the anime/manga vibes that you get from the T'au.

The scheme works really nicely against those black undersuits and the choice of tufts on the bases. I also love the little spots of blue on their helmet lens and the glow that's coming from the end of their guns. It breaks up the miniatures and helps build up the narrative behind their deadly intent!

Something as vibrant and different as this is not something I would have ever considered but it looks fantastic and seems like it would be a fun scheme to try and replicate. It was done using pre-shading, airbrushing, pin washes and of course some very nice harsh highlight to make out the armour segments. A little bit of drybrushing was then used to achieve that nice glow effect from the weapons. All in all, a great little project!
