@horati0nosebl0wer – I remember making an Xmas lighting system like this for my cottage, when I lived up in North Wales. My job at the time was “systems integrator” and I used to get loads of cool tech to try out at home, to learn how it worked, what it could be used for etc. (to send feedback to the developers usually, but often just so the company had a bank of ideas and tech for future developments.

Long before DMX type light controlling rigs were popular, I’d already brought the little “hamlet” of five houses I lived in to a standstill with crazy flashing lights! I’ve been trying to find the Xmas video we made when I worked at the car supermarket in Winsford (about ten years ago) – hooking up a line of Minis and making the headlamps, indicators etc. flash in time to some jolly Xmas music….

I never went quite as grand as some of those videos – but by the time they became a popular “thing” on the Youtubes, I’d torn down all my gear and built something else with it!

When we lived in a marina on the narrowboat (over winter, having access to electricity and hot water nearby is a godsend!) it was always beautiful to see twenty or thirty boats all lit up with fairy lights all over the rooftops (we had relatively lots of liveaboards in the marina.)
