New Age Of Sigmar Warcry Warbands & Direchasm Soon!
October 19, 2020 by brennon
There was plenty revealed for the Mortal Realms of Warhammer: Age Of Sigmar over this past weekend by Games Workshop. We start with some new options for Warcry as a new Starter Set called Catacombs is going to be available on Saturday.
Catacombs Starter Set // Warcry
Explore Warcry @ Store.OnTableTop
Within this set, you're going to find all the bits and pieces you need to get playing deep within the fiery catacombs of Varanthax’s Maw inside the Skullpike Mountains. You'll get that themed board alongside all of the terrain here which represents an interior location rather than the wastes of the original.
In addition to the terrain, board, gubbins and more you'll also find two new warbands which are out for blood. You can either side with the flame-wreathed Scions Of The Flame who look more and more impressive each time I look at them.
Scions Of The Flame // Warcry
Yes, they are a little ridiculous looking but I actually think that this might be one of the coolest packs they've done for Warcry. I love the Aqshy (Realm Of Fire) theme that runs through their clothing, armour and weapons and I this offers up a really good look at the variety available to the powers of Chaos in Age Of Sigmar. Getting a look at more of these cults is a bonus for those who love the Ruinous Powers.
If you prefer skulking in the darkness then you also have the rather deadly looking Shadowstalkers.
Shadowstalkers // Warcry
These warriors, soul-bound to Morathi, are looking to undertake their own dangerous quests across the Mortal Realms and no doubt steal important relics for their Mistress. They could also just be out for blood, slitting throats and generally causing mayhem amongst the other Grand Alliances....as well as their own.
I'm not so much of a fan of the "shadow" effect that we're seeing here on these miniatures. I get what they were trying to do and it looks ace in the artwork but I think it would take something special to make it look right when painting. You run the danger of them just looking ragged and tattered rather than magical.
Warcry Starter Sets
As well as the two new warbands which come as part of the Catacombs set you'll also be able to snap up four new Starter Set warbands for each of the Grand Alliances. You can pick from Skaven and Kharadron Overlords...
Order & Chaos Warbands // Warcry
...or Flesh-Eater Courts and Ironjawz. This allows you to play with a different warband which goes beyond the Chaos offerings.
Death & Destruction Warbands // Warcry
In addition to the new warbands, you're also going to be getting a bunch of new books to allow you to use these on the tabletop too. Rules do currently exist for them in the ether but they are going to be collected together as part of four new books which focus on each of the Grand Alliances.
Destruction & Chaos Books // Warcry
Order & Death Books // Warcry
This gives you all of the options you need for playing one of these forces in games of Warcry. This is obviously good for those who want to dip their toe into the world of Age Of Sigmar without collecting a massive army or indeed explore the setting and mechanics of Warcry as something other than a Chaos warband.
Warcry Trailer // Age Of Sigmar
Personally, I think I would have preferred Warcry to have been very centred around the Chaos warbands like it was at the start. I liked that the theme was all focused around these warbands vying for glory and power beneath the gaze of Archaon and it wasn't like they weren't wanting for variety as they've proven that with subsequent releases.
In this case, Games Workshop were damned either way. I can see why people wanted to see new warbands from their armies so they could just dive right in but I still think it lost some of its magic in the doing so. Still, if you've got a good core group that likes to play a certain way then there's no reason you have to even venture into all the additional options!
Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm
If you prefer your Age Of Sigmar battles to be short and sweet then you've also got a new set for Warhammer Underworlds coming soon called Direchasm.
Direchasm // Warhammer Underworlds
Dive Into Warhammer Underworlds @ Store.OnTableTop
In Direchasm you're still going to be following the flow of the story through the Beastgrave but with two new warbands. One one side you've got the new Lumineth Realm-lords and Myari’s Purifiers and on the other, the Dread Pageant who are Hedonites Of Slaanesh.
Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm Trailer // Age Of Sigmar
In addition to the new warbands and new accessories, you'll also find a load of additional stuff for those playing some of the existing warbands in Warhammer Underworlds. There is also an entirely new set of mechanics based around Primacy and Hunger. I'm sure we'll find out more in time about that!
So, that is quite a lot of information for Age Of Sigmar for you to digest. Make sure to drop your thoughts on it all below!

I really like that Warcry starter set and the Sciosn of Falme look awesome, maybe tiem to start with Warcry?
And as i got all the other underworlds starter sets I will surely get this one.
Good to hear you’re enjoying the Mortal Realms so much. It’s certainly got a lot more diverse and fascinating over the last year or so. I see a lot of what they’ve been producing as fodder for using in Age Of Sigmar: Soulbound RPGs
Well to be honest when they killed WHF I was like grumble grumble why did they do that grumble grumble and when they revealed AOS i was like grumble grumble that’s not my Fantasy, where are the regiments grumble grumble 😉 but I came to like it. The lore and the game have come a long way. I think I started when GW released the small starter sets for the old big starter set. And then I got into Silver Tower, bought hereos to use in that game and now I got some Nightghaunt, Tzeentch guys, Overlords and Lumineth. 😉… Read more »
I did very much enjoy my short time with Warhammer Underworlds. I just wish my friends had also been as interested in it haha.
I would really like to see them come back to Warhammer Quest for Age Of Sigmar too. I must say, I don’t think I am at all interested in the “mass battle” side of Warhammer: Age Of Sigmar but all of the smaller-scale stuff does VERY often set my wallet a-tingling.
The grand alliance books is a good news, but if they have brain to design equilibrated unit… the last tentative add dragon ogors to the game, but the oportunity to play my changeling with tzeentch chaos warriors is fantastic! I tired to tzeentch warband only meaning kairic and tzaangors warbands
The box is cool, goods warrbands and mor scenary than i thought, and the underworld slaanesh warband is awasome, skinny and large slaangor, androginus cultis cover in silks and paladin with scarcifications full body…. god work
I forget… this rat ogres gw?.. you have the plastic sprue of blood island and include this rat ogres??
No way dude
I read somewhere that the blood island sprues are mixed, that was back from the days when the models from the starter box where not releasead outside of that box so the sprues were filled with what ever fit on them.
Cutter? XD… the old ones are very very uglies
A cutter would help, but I think the Blood Island stuff is out of production becasue of the mixed spure. Which is said there were some great Skaven in that box and yes the old rat ogres are ugly.
That’d leave them with rest of the sprue’s worth of high elves to throw into the bin, not very environmentally friendly that.
Wow the figures are looking brilliant.
When is HeroQuest not HeroQuest when it’s Warcry !?!?
Both Warbands look really good and different to each other.
Very nice looking additions to the Warcry world! (Personally I’m happy to see that you can now field Kharadrons as a warband; I don’t have the space for a full army, and fielding a couple Thunderers and Skywardens seems a little more feasible).
Shadowstalkers looking pretty cool – I’ve still got my old Dark Elves and while I don’t play Warcry I’m sure they’ll look pretty good on the shelf besides my Druchii…
Only shows that it pays off not to go full retard with Age-of-Sigmar-ifying the factions (I am looking at you, Cow Aelves)…
Goddammit… My wallet is crying already… While Scions of Flame, though looking good, are not really my cuppa, the Shadowstalkers are just… mmm… . Same with the Direchasm’s Slannesh worshippers. I really wish for these to be available outside of the core sets. Even the Cow Aelves are looking good. The swordwoman is awesome. Mage is o.k. Dude in a stupid hat, after slicing off the hammer head and attaching something sensible, like halberd and obviously loosing the aforementioned silly hat will look great. The other dude in a stupid hat (with a bow) is the weakest link of the… Read more »
I thought Warcry was supposed to be Chaos Warbands fighting each other. Why do they make sets for the other guys?
Although, I always did think the “Daughters of Khaine” belonged in CHaos or at least Destruction more than order.
I think they did because the cardpacks they did for the non-chaos factions sold out within weeks. They then released the stats for these non-chaos units in one of their warcry supplements. And I kind of think they then realised that it had potential to be expanded beyond pure chaos vs chaos. To be honest I would have preferred an Ork-only variant as those are the the only faction (besides possibly dark elves) that love to fight for no reason at all. As for the ‘Daughters of Khaine’ .. yeah, those are weid, but then they are Elvish. And those… Read more »
Because this way they can sell rules and accessories to the remaining 75% of AoS playerbase and have a good skirmish ruleset to get people invested in.
