The latest Warlord Wednesday newsletter has this news…

Coming to the Warlord Webstore this weekend is our fantastic new collaboration with Airfix, marrying the fantastically fluid Blood Red Skies gameplay with the exceptional 1:72 aircraft of the venerable model manufacturers.

Whilst I can see that 1/72 scale might be great for a demo table at a show, i’m not convinced this is a great development for the game in general.

Firstly the Spitfire and Me109 Airfix kits are not actually very good. These are OLD kits and need re-tooling tbh. I built them a couple of years ago and they do not go together at all well. I binned the cockpit of the Spitfire, and the Me109 was so bad it went in the bin.

At 1/72 scale you are going to have very few planes on the table unless you go for a bigger table. BRS can be played on 3×3 or 4×4 quite nicely at 1/200 scale.

Surely if they wanted to re-scale the game then 1/144 would be a better choice as there are loads of kits available and they could have jumped on board with those (in much the same way as Battlefront have done with Team Yankee plastic planes).

Time will tell if this works out for Warlord. Yes the tie-in with a big name like Airfix might grab some sales. I do wonder if Warlord are spreading themselves a bit thin these days.
