Italeri Roll Out The World Of Tanks Miniatures Range!
August 21, 2014 by brennon
Italeri have rolled out the first few tanks in their World of Tanks range! Each of these vehicles is in 1:35 scale and the sets will feature some of the coolest tanks from the game and of course history...
We'll kick things off by looking at the Ferdinand and the Tiger tanks for the German forces. The Ferdinand was a good tank with heavy front armour but the mechanics disliked it because it used such individual parts. It was hard to get them working again once they'd been damaged but despite that they were effective tank destroyers.
Tiger tanks were incredibly powerful and the workhorses of the German army. They fought in many battles and were amazing against the Shermans and T-34 tanks they continued to come up against.
Rolling up for the Americans and the British we have the Sherman and the Chaffee tank. Apart from its weaknesses at navigating very rough terrain the Sherman was an amazing tank and would go into combat on all fronts during the war. It was well armed and was run by experienced crews.
The Chaffee was first used during the later period of World War II and was one of the best light tanks of the period. It would also be used in subsequent conflicts after the war too.
These are some neat looking tanks and the sets even come with glue for you to get them stuck together!
Will you be picking up these tanks?
That darn game and it’s hour sucking existence!
Shame they’re not 28mm. They’d be great for bolt action if they were.
Have a search in any good model store for 1/48 or 1/52 scale (both of which are OK for Bolt Action depending on the miniature). There are literally hundreds of kits available for WW2, and a lot at very cheap prices.
Italeri do plastic vehicles for Warlord Games, it’s quite a recent partnership so there’d be a conflict of interests there methinks!
Plastic?
I’d be shocked and dismayed if not. That is what Italeri do best.
So this is very interesting. I believe it is Italeri that is working with Warlord to add a whole new range of 1/48 (56?) plastic kits for Bolt Action.
And suddenly they crack out the 1/35 for WoT!!! Odd. Still if that is all true then hopefully it means those guys will be just around the corner 🙂
When did the Italians learn how to make tanks?
I would say that making plastic tanks is a step forward for the Italian tank programme 🙂
Looks like they got a better look at the occupying ones. I don’t see any of theirs in the mix ;-).
These will most likely be re-boxing of existing 1:35th kits to cash in on the WoT interest.
Not sure I’d call the Tiger I a ‘workhorse’ as they were comparatively rare compared to Pz IV’s and V’s which made up the bulk of Panzerwaffe in the latter part of the war.
Was about to say the same thing.
It may be worth shopping around for regular boxings of the same kits although there is some thing on the back of the booklet that has a tie in to the game. But presumably if you already play WOT then you won’t need that?
There is a bottle of liquid cement which most people will have, so depending on price not sure if it would be worth fussing about.
nb I haven’t checked prices, and there may be some benefit to picking this set up over a regular kit I am not aware of
They are a workhorse in WoT though, common as muck! Think the average thought process of the WoT player goes something along the lines of: Day 1: Wow, look I can play as a Tiger! Day 10: Almost there! These 5 hour play sessions and game subscription are worth it, almost have enough creds! Day 11: Wow! I have a tiger. Day 11 + 30 minutes: … .. … . (*sound of tears can be heard in background*) At least it used to be when I used to play the game. I remember thinking, “If this game were an accurate… Read more »
WoT Tiger listed at 39.90 Euro vs standard Tiger at 33.00 Euro
there are pics of the sprues on the website if you want to compare and contrast – the standard comes with photo etch which I can’t see on the WoT version but the WoT version has game codes and (presumably) game specific decals …
Think it’s probably a 99% certain that this is just a re-boxing of the existing kit with some extras. There would be no advantage (or reason) to re-tool for this release, unless they were old moulds and needed redoing anyway.
Thanks Kane
I would rather have the PE and historical decals if I was into armour.
More into wingy things, for which tanks as act as targets
Tally Ho Tiffies!
1:35 is too big for gaming. Modelling stuff only really. Nice enough but a differnt hobby.
Not really a fan of 1:35 scale kits, mainly because I have limited space to put them and I game almost exclusively with 1:72 models. Also Dragon Models have most of the tanks available in WoT in 1:72. Already got myself a Maus, E100, Sturer Emil, IS-3, and T-34/76.
Not a fan of the 1:35 scale myself. I’ve always had a love for 1:72 ever since I was a kid, it just feels like “the right scale”. That aside, though … I’m very disappointed in this. I really don’t think and otherwise respectable historical model kit company should be sticking a game logo on their box like this and selling it as if it were a toy tank based on a fictious machine from a game. Just doesn’t seem right to me. I really hope this is at the very least some limited time or limited quantity run and… Read more »
Wouldn’t worry about it.
If people play WoT and are modellers they will be sussed about kits
If someone plays WoT but isn’t a modeller buys one or a few of the special boxings they might then get into the hobby.
Which is all to the good imho.
ps 1/72 scale kits = TOTS (the One True Scale)
I have a few 1/48 kits and one 1/35 Jeep that came with the Hawker Hunter I wanted
plus whatever scale for figures. But 1/72 is deffo my preferred scale too! 😀
