Well done. I like the nail heads; adds that bit of extra realism. I wonder about making them for 15mm (FoW) or would that just be tedious?
For FOW or other 15mm games your probably looking at around 10mm x 10mm so it would be easier to get some thin balsa wood cut it to 10×10 add the runners thin strips (matchstick equivalent) and then score in the planks once its dried.
Well the Emperor obviously got rid of all the gypo’s in the future, because they would of nicked them all.
And to the individual who I know gave me minus karma, I was being polite 😉
Like it guys! I have a few tea-stirrers upstairs somewhere so am gona go and give it a shot! Defo works in sci-fi too, because even laser guns still need to be shipped from one side of the galaxy to the other, right?!
Can’t wait to set up my new man cave to try some of these terrain projects!
Side note: Like the Tyranid colour scheme. Refreshing to see something more organic as opposed to the usual garish schemes.
Only issue is the size of them. Most pallets are about 4×4 ft. In 28mm that wouldmake them only 3/4in in square. Being 35mm by 35mm these are quite large pallets.
There is scale and then there is proportion.
If you want simple to make ones that look really quite cool on the table top then this is your method.
There is no reason they couldn’t be bigger.
But i don’t think you will have to ‘write a narrative’ for the pallets.
Sometimes, its just ok to scale things up a bit for them to be cool for gaming 🙂
“Heroically proportioned” pallets! Epic! 😀
If you like saving yourself the time building them youself then check out …

You can get them quite easily, just search for SIKU 7015 at your favorite toys store or auctionhouse 😉
I bought some stirrers from ebay, not a bad price, about £2 for 1000.
Great vid! Can we see some for Dropzone Commander? 😛
I’M on my way to costa! great stuff! Its the project that I wanted to do long time ago but forgot about it. WHERE did you found match stick ? wilko? poud land?
Just ordered 2000 from amazon, not sure what I’m going to do with that many but I cant wait to try this out.
Great Job.
These are great! These darn hobby lab shows are gonna make me start building terrain!
I buy coffee stirrers on Amazon, 1000 count 5.5 inches at $5.63 free shipping with Prime.
Augh! Nightmare flashbacks from old jobs in warehouses. The number of times I should have broken my ankle walking across pallets only to have that thin, cheap wood break under my boots . . . Time to buy some “armored forklifts” and pallet jack “light infantry.” 😀
These are going to look great stacked beside my warehouse in Wolsung!
So very cool!!! Can’t wait to make some!
Hmm, might be time to shave down some lego bricks to make pallets stacked with boxes of rations/military hardware/sexdolls.
10/10 top marks for that one guys!
I especially like how you then showed it as part of a little set up and it actually worked really well and was extremely effective for such a simple little set up of terrain.
So when you say backstage is the price of a coffee it is actually where its going 😛
Great series, great show. Really great board dressing pieces.
@warzan you are going to have to do a lot to top @Lloyds palm trees though
Great tutorial. I’m definately making some of these!!
Great tutorial guys. I’m gonna make a load of these for my games of Batman
Nice tutorial. Short, simple and very cheap!!
Nice.
If you want to make zillions, it might be worth it to make jigs for setting up the planks.
Also take note that painting that way, try to be careful with the glue. Because if you make a mess with the glue, that part of the pallet won’t absorb the wash.
You can also look into using regular wood stains or calligraphy inks. Much cheaper than specialized modelling products. You could also experiment with an old pot of tea or coffee, the soft wood will suck in just about any colored liquid.
That’s a good idea, I think your right with this wood tea or coffee might work well. Going to need to give it a go.
Love the pallets nice and easy to make I would have some with black or green stains to represent the older one’s that have been left out in the weather more.
These are going in my Wolsung terrain immediately!
I’m currently underway building loads of these so my minis can celebrate on the 12th
lol the thought had occurred to us when filming 😉
Excellent video, can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
