Warcradle Studios Enters Beta Testing For Firestorm Armada 3rd Edition
September 18, 2020 by avernos
Three years ago Spartan Games announced that they were going to be working on a new edition of their space fleet combat game Firestorm Armada. unfortunately, the company perished soon afterwards but now Warcradle Studios who picked up the license have started to focus on the 3rd Edition to bring the game back in all its glory and they need your help to make it all that it can be.

Over at their website www.firestormarmada.com you can download beta versions of the rules and fleet lists to get involved in helping to make the new edition the best version yet. If you're already an owner of the older version of the game you can jump in with what you have and see what you think and send them constructive feedback, as they say themselves "nothing is yet written in stone" so everything can be explored.
If you want to get involved and don't already have ships that you can use lying around they have also made base, ships and tokens available as PDFs for you to print and play with at home. It's great to see Firestorm getting the cobwebs blown off and I hope that this new edition will attract new players to it who may have missed out the first time around.
Open beta testing is also good, although I'm glad I'm not having to read the submitted feedback, so if you're a fan of the game and have thoughts on issues that you've fixed with house rules years ago now is your chance to submit them and get your say.
Are you planning on jumping into the Beta?

I had three fleets for this game and I sold them all after Spartan went bust. I also had two Dystopian War Fleets. Regrets, regrets!
shame
I used the money to buy into Infinity (I game I love and hate). Still, in hindsight, I would have kept them if I could turn back time.
Great to see this moving forward. Still Very much looking forward to the revamp of Dystopian Wars, it’s been a long wait and I think I could probably reenact the let’s play Justin fought with the lads from Warcradel I’ve watched it so much. Looking forward to filnging massive hands full of exploding dice.
looks good.
Downloaded. The Spartan game was a good ‘un. Just suffered from their inability to focus and leave it alone for more than 5 seconds!
Models were nice too. I hsve a Relthoza fleet sequestered away somewhere…
The models were on my Christmas list for quite some time, but never happened. Always hard to justify getting into a new system when there’s bills to be paid. Maybe this time…
Downloaded the first version a couple of weeks ago and the rules were pretty straightforward. Very very similar to Dropfleet minus the orbital layers dynamic and sensors/signature dictating effective weapon ranges. This isn’t a bad thing as I rather like the rules but in recent years just had enough of every DFC game revolving around taking ground objectives (apart from space station). The addition of hex bases I like to as it gives a few more options to weapons arcs and makes things clear too. I wish they would have gone all the way and made it a hex-based game… Read more »
Thanks for the heads up I have been waiting for this. I shall be all over this like a does of ringworm in an overly wet change room
there’s a picture I’m glad you’ve given me o.O
Sadly this is drawn from bitter experience as a young bloke in the school’s dodgey swimming change sheds …….. ** sigh ***
