Black Seas by scribbs

We start with some work from scribbs who has been showing off a bit of work painting up the miniatures from Warlord Games' Black Seas. The project is so far centred on painting up a selection of Brigs for the game in some pretty wonderful detail.

scribbs has gone to great lengths to paint up the ships in plenty of detail. The actual ships themselves have been painted up really well with those bright, bold colours really coming to the fore and contrasting wonderfully against the darker wood of the decking and the cannons which are primed to fire at the enemy.

As well as painting the ships to a high level of quality, scribbs has also dared to do something that very few has and that's to actually attach the rigging to the sails and masts.

This really helps to add the finishing touch to the miniatures and makes them feel like realistic vessels of the time.  You don't have to do the rigging of course but I think it really does add that something extra to the final look of the game and really ground you in that world of sea and salt.

It all comes together into this nice little shot which shows one of these ships on the high seas, battling its way through a storm on the way to battle.

There is something really evocative about naval wargaming in this period and at this scale. I think you get a sense of the grandeur of it all as well as a bit of the pomp and ceremony that comes with sailing one of these massive ships. It was certainly a fascinating period of history and when you see someone like scribbs do work like this, it can be sorely tempting to dive in and give it a go.

Gorkamorka by andre77

We are heading to the world of Warhammer 40,000 next with andre77 and their work on Gorkamorka. Recently, andre77 worked on some fun Orks who have their sights set on the open road atop their roaring bikes.

The Orks of Warhammer 40,000 and Gorkamorka, in general, have always been fascinating to me and I loved the idea of playing a game which was so centred around the idea of greenskins. Again, much like with the Black Seas hobbying above, it is very tempting to break out the wallet and get my hands on some Orks to paint up for no other reason than the rule of cool.

andre77 has done a great job on these miniatures and managed to make the bikes look great with bright bold colours to match these wild and feisty Orks. The Orks themselves are also very cool and I like how much detail has been worked into showing off their musculature. Another tip of the cap should also go to the little details worked onto the bikes like the creeping flames and lightning strikes.

However, where this project impressed (it is very big!) is with this latest project that I can't wait to see painted. This is an updated War Rig which andre77 has christened as the Gaz Gas Rigg. It looks immense and seems like it would be a lot of fun to paint up.

You just know that you need to introduce this into more than one or two games. I love the idea of a big rolling rig which is being chased down by rival Orks in an effort to either blow it up or so they can get their hands on the "gaz" for themselves. As with all of the work from andre77, I can see this being a very inspiring project to follow to completion.

Steampunk Terrain by carlospictor

Finally, we turn our attention to the work by carlospictor on some terrain from a range of different companies in order to bring a Steampunk London to life. This project features lots of interesting ideas but I've just picked out a few here to get us started.

The collection is a mixture of terrain from companies like Games Workshop, TTCombat and games like Twisted and Rise Of Moloch. Regardless of whether or not the terrain comes from something more fantastical, it all seems to come together into a collection which would be perfect for the cobbled streets of Steampunk London.

It all feels like it matches up really well, especially with a bunch of extras here and there to bring character to the terrain. For example, the posters and adverts here and there really do make you think of the back alleys of London town where miscreants are at the ready to steal your hard-earned wages! I also like the way the brickwork has been done to match the setting and then stained to show the influence of all the metal and smoke.

As a whole, the project is packed full of interesting tutorials, snapshots and ideas for those who are looking to make a fun Steampunk tabletop. Some of the most recent additions have focused in on proper detail work and you have the likes of this statue which has been weathered to perfection.

Make sure to get a better look at what carlospictor has been working on over on the project link above. There is a lot to dive into, as with all of these projects, and maybe it will offer up some hints as to what you should be working on next.
