Fans of Battlegroup's second world war rules will be able to move to a whole new theatre as Plastic Soldier Company has shown off some pages from the upcoming Pacific War supplement. This is the first time Battlegroup has ventured to the Pacific and Warwick has delved into the history of the actions to bring a book that accurately portrays the conflicts in the area, with the first half of the book based around the American and Japanese island conflicts and the second on the British Army in Burma.

As always the book starts with the history of the conflict, these are short but good primers if you're not au fait with them already. They have also included new rules for amphibious assaults that played such a large part of the warfare on the islands and are so synonymous to the push towards Japan that they really couldn't have been ignored. After the US and Imperial Japanese army lists there are new rules for Pacific terrain and how it will impact game play before moving into the scenarios. There are five specific scenarios for the theatre that will get you started, but once you get into Battlegroup it won't be long before you are coming up with your own.

With the larger part of the Pacific covered the second half of the book moves to the forgotten war with the British Army in Burma. Once again Warwick begins with a potted history of the conflict before giving you the lists for the British and alterations to those lists if you want to run Australian Battlegroups instead. The book is 203 pages long and the Battlegroup rulesets are always well received for their attention to detail in bringing the second world war to the tabletop. These are not games where you will play a standard 7 turn game and the winner will have a couple of men left, battlegroups stress and break depending on many factors and if you already play WWII but want to try a different style of game over some of the more well known games then I suggest picking up Battlegroup, it can be used in multiple scales so whatever you have at home is fine.

No word on the release date yet but Plastic Soldier say it's coming "very soon" and for a lot of people it can't come too soon. It's great to see the Pacific Theatre get some much needed attention, too often games are permanently fixated on Europe to the detriment of other theatres.
