@wolfch I look to distinguish the different British line regiments by the facing colours, and picking up appropriate colours. As crazyredcoat says, there’s other small details that differ, but at the 15mm scale, I don’t have the talent/patience to go much deeper. I do find it interesting to have a look though. The drummers can be interesting to look at, as they can vary a fair bit.

Highlanders also have the different tartan patterns. I’m painting the first steps of the pattern for the Black Watch and Gordons in the same way, but I’ll be diverging them now. I stuck a short crib sheet into my project on how I’m planning the two tartan patterns.

A Foray into Napoleonic Wargaming

The Black Watch also have different coloured plumes to all other British foot regiments. I’m painting skirmishing flank companies, so the Black Watch have a red over green compared to the plain green of the Gordons.
