June 19, 2020 by brennon
A new adventure is coming to Dungeons & Dragons in September 2020 with the recently revealed Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. Wizards Of The Coast talked more about it this week and also showed off a few of the extras coming out for roleplayers too.

Here is some of the background on this new entry into the 5th Edition setting...
"Beneath the unyielding night sky, you stand before a towering glacier and recite an ancient rhyme, causing a crack to form in the great wall of ice. Beyond this yawning fissure, the Caves of Hunger await. And past this icy dungeon is a secret so old and terrifying that few dare speak of it. The mad wizards of the Arcane Brotherhood long to possess that which the god of winter’s wrath has so coldly preserved—as do you! What fantastic secrets and treasures are entombed in the sunless heart of the glacier, and what will their discovery mean for the denizens of Icewind Dale? Can you save Ten-Towns from the Frostmaiden’s everlasting night?"
Taking us further into the Forgotten Realms and providing us with a chilling new adventure to undertake, this sounds like it is going to be a fun adventure! I have always liked the Icewind Dale region thanks to the old computer games and so it's neat to see it being front and centre of a new campaign.
You'll also note that, as with other releases, there is a traditional and variant cover for this new book. Who doesn't want a rather epic looking owlbear on the front of their book, right?
D&D Dice & More
As well as the books, you'll also be able to pick up a new themed set of dice...

Plus there is also a range of new accessories coming out to support the campaign too. Wizards Of The Coast have talked about things like maps, cards, tokens and more which we'll look at in more detail closer to the release.

Icewind dale…. that rings a bell….
Loved playing the pc game and Baldurs gate questing between quests.
This is a great setting! I read most of the books by R.A. Salvatore and this might be a good place to play some D&D games.
I watched some last weekends dnd live events using the new setting…. While watching strangers playing via zoom is never gonna be as good as a group of friends around a table, I was quite taken with the few starter missions they played through – They seemed to be going for more of a horror story set in an isolated community. Reminded me a bit of John Carpenter’s “Thing” movie.
Apparently there are a load of stat blocks for new artic creatures in the book as well which could be useful if your players have already memorized the entire beastiary!
