Perry Miniatures’ War Of The Triple Alliance Range Now Available
June 12, 2020 by brennon
Perry Miniatures has now released their first selection of twenty wargaming miniature sets for use in the War Of The Triple Alliance which took place between 1864-70 and effectively shaped the way we see Central and South America today.
Uruguayan Infantry Command
All of the sets are for a range of different armies which took to the field of battle during the period. For example, you've got the Uruguayans above but then you've also got the Paraguayans, Brazilians, Argentinians and more too. This is certainly a range and period that I've never considered before but the armies look great.
Uruguayan "Libertad" Battalion Advancing (Carlist Berets)
Again, this is very much a selection of miniatures for armies that I think provide us a glimpse at battles happening beyond the sphere of Europe. I think a lot of folks are very much tied to the idea of playing games around familiar areas like North America and Europe but there was so much going on in different areas of the world which are fascinating.
Uruguayan Infantry Running
Whilst we've had a look at a lot of the Uruguayan forces here, there is a lot for you to dive into for the other factions. I particularly like the way that the Brazilians look which is neat.
Brazilian Infantry Firing Line
This is a rather fun little collection of miniatures that might take you off on an entirely different route into history. It's always fun looking at the battles fought in often-overlooked corners of the world.
What do you think?

Nice figures for army unit’s.
This is a VERY underepresented section of history – in general and also in wargaming – so it’s great to see a company like Perry make minis for it. This war was an absolute BLOODBATH, the worst in Latin America’s history. But it takes place almost simultaneously with the American Civil War so it tends to be overshadowed. Francisco Lopez of Paraguay was almost a South American mini-Napoleon, fanatically followed and and aggressively taking on seemingly half the continent (Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina, I think), and doing damned well for almost five years despite being outnumbered by an insane degree.… Read more »
Its comments like this that inspire me to read up a little and expand my understanding. Thanks.
I know almost nothing of that regions history, beyond the very early stuff I learnt at school. From what I have heard though it is ripe for some of the most interesting wargaming, the environments and tactics along with troops are (apparently) the very diverse.
Thanks, @captaingrumpy. 😀 It’s responses like that that keep me adding little bits of history when and where I can. 😀
I was taught a LITTLE about this war in the 6th Grade, along with Simon Bolivar’s wars of liberation. As this Triple Alliance War is usually overshadowed by the American Civil War, Bolivar’s Wars are often overshadowed by Napoleonics, etc.
But South American wars are no joke.
Same with the wars in China. There are thousands of yeas of military history there that are barely scratched.
Love to see more Asian wars.
This is a really interesting war. Or more like series of overlapping wars I guess. Did not know much about it until recently. There is so much to dig into. Interesting time period and completely different terrain from what is usually seen in that period. Great to see the Perry’s (again) doing something a bit out of the ordinary. Kudos!
