Unboxing: Clash Of Spears | Roman Starter Set
June 10, 2020 by avernos
Today we are unboxing the ancient wargaming Roman Starter Set made using Victrix Limited models for use in Clash Of Spears.
Gerry takes a look at the large force that Victrix have prepared within this box. From sprues to unit cards he goes through everything. There's fine detail on the miniatures themselves although Gerry guides you through some assembly details that might be helpful for the cavalry.
Which force are you going to get for Clash of Spears?

To me there is no such thing as a simple build when it comes to plastics
I’ve started a Republican Roman force for Clash but went with Agema’s plastics, instead. I am using Victrix’s Samnites though, and might even do a wee force of them as they are nice figures. Aside from the terrible looking mail, these look decent and plenty of shield transfers are available if you want fancy shields.
The mail doesnt look the best
Clash of Heroes Start set is out of stock everywhere in the UK, is It out of print now, or just interrupted by Covid19?
it’s only just arriving at retailers this week, Northstar have just put it up for preorder on Monday. So you should be able to track it down from now
Ah, that would be why my Victrix Romans came in a bag and not a fancy box!
Pretty sure I didn’t get any cards as well.
But I do like the minis! So I’m happy. Also invested in a ‘Metric Ton’ of transfers from Victrix.
yeah the boxes are only from fighting hedgehog, if you were in the Kickstarter you should’ve gotten the cards mind you.
You should ping Alvaro a message about them and I’m sure they can sort them out
nice looking figures the soldier holding the spear under hand looks way wrong and uncomfortable a position. @avernos
it’s a heavy throwing spear, imagine someone about to throw a javelin balanced mid point, palm up and ready to sling forward.
He’s Hercules? Lol
fantastic ! Thx Gerry
That’s a good starting set
Thanks @avernos. Glad to see the game getting a little attention. Looking forward to future battle reports for this game and Oathmark. Building these things for grandsons soon…didn’t notice the odd cavalry problem with other Victrix, but I can’t recall if I have built Victrix cavalry yet…too much going on…the gray hill of shame is threatening to become a mountain…
it’s not the same with every cav from victrix, the gallic cav has saddles but you can swap the figures without noticeable gaps appearing
That’s who it was! The Gallic cav gathering dust in my cabinet thanks to Antares, Erehwon, grandsons, and now, Oathmark, were no problem. Despite the byzantine directions, no boxes, and the odd chainmail, I still have a fondness for Victrix…especially for numbers in Hail Casesar, but my first Aventines came in right before I got back from my travels (light cavalry for the Republican Romans). The elephants ARE splendid. Aventine does nice work.
Excellent stuff Gerry. Thanks. Plenty of options there for a bloody interesting period of roman history
