Loads Of Spooky Necrons Rise For Warhammer 40,000’s Newest Edition
May 26, 2020 by brennon
We got the lowdown over the weekend on what Games Workshop has planned for the next edition of Warhammer 40,000 but this also led to some swankier pictures showing up of the new models which are coming our way.

The first of the big models which was sort of revealed over on the new Warhammer 40,000 Website was the Skorpekh Lord here. Now that is an epic and chunky looking Necron who is not fussed by your puny weapons and armour. I do really like the style of these new Necrons with a lot of work going into showing them not as shiny automatons just off the assembly line but battered and twisted warriors from a time gone by.
Sticking with the idea of new and fancy looking Necrons, we also got this image. Here we can see a lot of the new additions to The Silent Kings army who are wandering forth to turn the grimdark galaxy to ash.
I do particularly like the long-legged machines with those big guns and there is certainly something War Of The Worlds about them. It looks like there are going to be lots of different characters finding their way into the mix here too for the Necrons to give them more options beyond the regular ol' Lord.
Shiny New Primaris
On top of the previews of these swanky new Necrons, we also had a better look at loads of new Primaris Space Marines. We had some new characters but before we check them out, we do have a core of additional troops to help bolster Space Marine Chapters. We start with some chainswords at the Assault Intercessors.
Beyond that we have the Bladeguard Veterans who are very much like the Honour Guard we've seen before armed with their power swords and storm shields. I do like it when we see proper Sci-Fi Knights for the Space Marines.
My favourite of the new previews though was for the Primaris Outriders, the new bikers for the Primaris Space Marines. I have always liked their bikes, effectively battering rams with guns mounted on them, and these have a neat new style to them which builds on the classic look.
It wouldn't be a Space Marine release without the addition of yet another Primaris Lieutenant who is leading the way with sword, pistol and shield at the ready. You can't escape these fellows who seem to pop up everywhere!
Another favourite from the preview was this fellow. I love lots of grim darkness in my grimdark and this fellow is very much that. Here we have the Judicar who is going to be slicing off heads and taking souls in the name of The Emperor.
This is very much making me want to bring together a Black Templar army. I have always liked those epic Space Marine Crusaders and with someone like the Judicar now in the mix, it would be excellent to breathe some life back into that Chapter.
What do you make of these new previews for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000?

The new bike’s look good.
Hi we created a new line of marines seemingly inspired by the clean sci fi aesthetics from the original RT/ 2nd edition Goodwin designs juxtaposing the imperium of old and their clean technological and scientific approach with the modern wreck that has become, cool, now lets make them living reliquaries as everybody else…
Also the new logo is a graphic design sin, not even the eagles eye is correct…
I think the Judicar is my favourite from these new miniatures. He could certainly be turned into an inquisitor for Kill Team?
I really think GW made a good decision going this direction with the Primaris. They’d really lost a lot of the character and flavor that made Space Marines so distinct amongst other sci-fi brands with their clean, streamlined look. Now with their classic skull iconography more present, more of a focus on mixed melee and ranged combat, and the popular “knights in space” look coming back, I feel they’re finally starting to find their place amongst everything else. (Also, that Justicar is awesome!) Though I am with @sundancer, we really could use more orks. Ghazghkull was a great addition to… Read more »
I quite like the look of the Blade Guard and especially like the judicar, this isn’t a criticism but I was wondering about his sword as I don’t think I’ve seen one like it before.
It’s an executioner sword, similar to the ones the Sisters of Silence use. It’s designed more for cleaving and lopping than stabbing, which is why it has a squared-off head.
Ahh ok that’s it then, grand, cracking sword that and many thanks for the enlightenment it’s appreciated ?
You’re welcome!
I have to admit I think the Judicar head with the paint job looks like a Necron in disguise.
Love the Judicar model and the fact that they’ve brought over the personal heraldry that we used to only really see on the Grey Knights. If there’s a proper Dark Angel conversion sprue on the horizon then I’ll definitely be grabbing the Bladeguard.
I like the Judicar.
But most of the new marines I see just look very same to me. It might be that they’re not featuring all the the various chapters as much as they used to. Ultramarines were always a showcase for vanilla marines, but it seems like that’s more true than ever before.
I’m not really wild about the “rusty” new look for the Necrons. They always needed new models but, for something that regenerates damage, why rust?
On the other hand, what are the stats for the chain sword? Is it finally something worth taking? And what I really want to see/read in these articles is what’s changing specifically so I can determine whether this “new” edition is necessary. After all, if it’s “perfect”, it’ll never have to be changed again (adjective used in their blog).
They said in a Q+A that Astartes Chainswords will be better than regular Chainswords. Nothing yet on what that means, but I’d guess -1AP if it’s anything. They mentioned Chainswords used by Astra Militarum as a point of comparison, so I wonder if marinelets will also get better chainswords.
Necrons !! Whats not to like. Evil shiny robots.. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!
Love the look of the new Judicar model! ??
I’d love to build an entire squad of troopers like him if I can workout the fluff to justify it.
Maybe I’ll just do it anyway! ?
