In reading a book on the American War of Independence I stumbled on a connection between Coleraine and the Delaware Continental Regiment. The first commander of the regiment when it was formed in 1776 was Colonel John Haslet born in Coleraine, Ulster. Unfortunately Colonel Haslet was killed at the battle of Princeton in 1777.

Also, during the French and Indian War he was captain in the 2nd Pennsylvania Battalion and was part of the expedition against Fort Duquense in 1758. He was educated as a Presbyterian minister and served as a physician when he settled in Delaware.

Just tidbit I thought would be interesting to share.

There are plenty of connections of Scots-Irish or Ulster men with American history
