Andy Zeck 1968 – 2020
May 8, 2020 by crew
It was with unbelievable sadness last weekend, that we learned Andy Zeck (@suetoniuspaullinus to many of you) had passed away on the 19th April 2020.
Andy was a very close friend of both our community and the tabletop gaming world at large. He was also a great friend to many of us personally. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and daughters and we are utterly heartbroken by the news.
Andy was an incredibly gentle and kind man, with a talent for churning out beautiful miniatures which kept us delighted, entertained, and most importantly inspired!
We had hoped to have him on film showcasing his talent and I will now regret forever that we have lost the opportunity to let him share his secrets in person with you. However, we hope that his influence will continue in all of the work produced in the forums and projects.
It is with that in mind that we have reached out to his family to pass on our condolences and ask their permission to work on creating a Community Award in Andy’s memory. Our aim is to help cement his contributions into the fabric of this community and hopefully to continue inspiring folk in our hobby for years to come.
We’d like to thank his wife Manuela and his Daughters for their kind permission.
In closing, we remember Andy as being a wonderful human, friend, and inspiration to many of us. Rest in peace Andy, you have all of our love.
If you would like to see some of Andy’s prolific painting skills which carried across genres and time periods, you can find out more as part of his profile.

We also wanted to share this video we pulled from the archives. Here is just a glimpse of his talents from our Fabled Realms Boot Camp where his ability to churn out painted miniatures was on full display as well as his wonderful persona.
Let us also take a moment to admire some of Andy’s superb painting. He created a fantastic and varied miniature collection and catalogued much of it here as part of our community as well as elsewhere. We have a link to his Projects here but Andy was also very active in the forums. Below is a showcase of his amazing skills.
Once again, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and daughters. Rest in peace Andy.
RIP Andy. I have already commented on the forum that began when the news came out. I also shared on Facebook around 40 or 50 pics that Andy had shared with me during our chats on Facebook messenger over about 3 years of infrequent chatting. I regret not keeping in contact more because he was free with his time, his tips and was always a pleasure to chat with. I assumed we would be meeting up at Salute but sadly that never came to pass. Thanks to Andy’s family for giving permission to involve his name in an OnTableTop award.… Read more »
RIP Brother. His work was an inspiration to me. I will miss looking at his posts and admiring his stream of work.
So sad, the pics show his tremendous talent. But the kind words show he was ah good man. Well done on the idea of the award in his name. May his family find peace in knowing he was well liked & respected in our community.
*sigh*
Thanks for sorting this guys, a fitting tribute to a genuinely lovely bloke, RIP Andy.

Massive condolences to his family, friends and anyone else feeling his loss.
I hope that his work and character that has been shown here on OTT will keep inspiring our community, and those who will join it, for a long time yet to come.

I am still trying to come to terms with this news. Future Boot Camps will not be the same without him and neither will our community, no longer will I pick him up from Tesco at 4 am, chat on the flight and the drive to Coleraine. I won’t have someone to give my tomato and mushrooms to when we have our Ulster fry before heading into OTT. I won’t have my painting buddy sat next to me as we beaver away to finish the hobby weekend minis. A truly sad moment and I am very pleased to hear of… Read more »
I loved seeing his mini’s here and elsewhere,he was a great painter and i was both inspired and a little intimidated ( silly i know ) every time they were shown.Condolences to all his friends and his family.

Rest in Peace, Andy. You were a kind, quiet soul with inspiring talent for your craft.
The day we lost you is a tragedy.
My condolences to your family and all friends.
I am proud to be able to call you friend. you will always be a inspiration for me in hobby and personal life. I will miss you truly as I cannot imagine bootcamp being same without you. Soon we will all meet in painters Valhalla !
Rest In Peace Andy 🙁
RIP Andy. You will be a miss my friend ? My thought are with your family.
The Pacific War US Marine he painted and gave me at one of the Bolt Action boot camps I think is now my most treasured miniature.
It sure is a small world, I used his US Marines as inspiration to paint my own BA Japs that I got at the first BA boot camp. I really like the way he painted skintones and used mostly muted colours without it looking drab.
@neves1789 – Andy straight-out SAVED by 28mm LRDGs, particularly the vehicles, with some helpful advice when the project was going very poorly for me. Two or three “tricks of the trade” which didn’t sound like they made sense, but following his instruction had a miraculous effect on these vehicles. I didn’t even have to ask for his help, he saw I was getting discouraged on the project thread and reached out. I honestly don’t know if I would have finished those vehicles they way they were going.
This is such sad news, I always loved looking at the painting that he achieved and posted on here.
He will be miseed and a community award seems a good way to remember him.
I can only echo everyone’s thoughts and comments on here. I had the privilege along with Noyjatat to spend a couple of boot camps with Andy and I found him to be funny, talented, kind and a true gamer in all the right meanings of the phrase. RIP buddy such a sad loss and I wish his family all my best wishes at this time.
Sorry to here of you leaving for a better place. Test in peace.
