Become a Stealthy Ninja in Bushido’s First Board Game!
July 14, 2014 by dracs
GCT Studios have got some exciting news as they are expanding how we can experience the rich world of Bushido with a new stealth based board game. Slink through the shadows in Rise of the Kage.
Rise of the Kage marks GCT Studios' first attempt at a board game. Set in the world of the Bushido's Jwar Isles, two to four players can choose to take on the role of either stealthy ninjas seeking to assassinate the ruling Takashi clan, or defend them as the guards of the Prefecture of Ryu.
"The ninjas play cooperatively discovering weapons from shuriken to poisoned rice, dispatching guards as they seek to complete their goals.
The guard boss employs all the resources at hand to bring their deadly foe to a halt. If they can hold them off until sunrise or raise the alarm then all will be safe for another night.
Ninja or guards, players face difficult decisions. Do the ninja recklessly force their way through their opponents whilst undoubtedly raising the alarm level, go too slowly and stealthily though and they face losing the advantage that night brings, dawn ultimately bringing an un-reckonable force down upon them. Do the guards throw themselves in the way of their more deadly rivals or strategically attempt to slow them down? Rise of the Kage offers a great blend of sneaky skills and gobsmacking kills." - GCT Studios
GCT intend to take this game to Kickstarter to help fund the production of models and other such game components. Given the quality of the Bushido miniatures, it is safe to say that Rise of the Kage should feature some interesting and well sculpted models.
The fact that the game is set in the same world as Bushido opens up a bunch of opportunities as well. Not only does it make Rise of the Kage a good gateway game, but it also provides the background for future expansions to be built upon. Maybe we'll see the horrors of the Cult of Yurei trying to infiltrate the peaceful lands of the Temple of Ro-Kan.
Will you be donning your black pajamas and becoming a ninja? Or will you stand firm as a defending guard?

Apart from sharing the same world/fluff any indications of mini’s cross-over (like Mercs/Dreadxxxx)?
This looks like it will tick all the right boxes for me
To be fair, any pitch that begins with “become a ninja” has pretty much ticked half of the desired boxes by default.
Yep it’s like Pirates who doesn’t like Pirates
I wonder if there will be a demo at Gen Con?
You need black pajamas to be a ninja? Excuse me while I go find some black pajamas. 😉
I do want to see the game.Who doesn’t want black clad ninjas running round .The minis should be nice. I wonder what they are going to be made from metal or plastic?
