Unboxing: New Mortem et Gloriam Miniatures | PSC Games
May 2, 2020 by brennon
Justin gets a chance to open up some of the new boxes of miniatures that are coming out for Mortem et Gloriam (MeG).
We're taking a look at some of the new Ultracast Sassanid Persians as well as some Late Imperial Romans. But, that's not all as we're also looking at Gothic Heavy Cavalry, Warriors and Archers!
If you're getting started in Plastic Soldier Company's Mortem et Gloriam then you've got lots available for you to draw from.
Will you be picking up these miniatures?

I was fascinated by the plastic when I first saw it. I own Lurkio Miniatures and we do some lovely sculpts. But the plastic brings out the detail better than metal. And the material copes its paint so well. I was a bit amazed. First time plastics have been better then metal for me. Simon
To answer the how do they take paint question as I got hold of some pre-production figures – very well basically 🙂 Apparently they work fine without an undercoat although I undercoated as normal. Paint does not flake off spears even when you bernd them quite a lot.
The figures look a bit raw and flat. Horses and riders are done in one piece and sometimes it’s easy to see holes between saddle and the rider. The mold lines are terrible. I know, that in general they’re not a big problem, but if you compare these minis with xyston and ForgedInBattle (metall) or PSC of BF infantry (hard plastic) the difference will be very obvious. I think the idea and new material have a great potential. I think the new packing is great (though, since the boxes are already designed for MeG it seems natural to have proper… Read more »
Some of the cavalry are two piece.
As in riders body to attach to legs on horse.
Mouldlines are an issue on metal figures too, so cleaning up a few ain’t an issue to me, but with Ultracast, the more you get used to the pressure setting, dependant on each mould, the less they become apparent.
So yes, over time as they tweak the settings on an individual mould basis, they will decrease. But they are easy enough to remove. Easier than metal ones anyway.
I presuming the masters are taken from the original metal figures
Yes we can take the original metal masters and convert to plastics. That way it keeps the detail. Flash has reduced down to very little now. I can get them off with my nails. Material is very easy to work with.
Regarding the mouldlines – I hope you’re right. It’s hard to build a proper impression by watching an unboxing 🙂 I can’t wait to put my hands on NORTHAG pledge(I guess it will arrive in next few weeks) and check out the ultracast properties myself 🙂
The latest ones have very few mould lines. The few on shields I scraped of with my nails without even needing a knife. Its just a matter of getting to grips with an entirely new technology I think. Getting there and better every time. The materials manages to do amazing undercuts. The detail on them – said through gritted teeth – is better than we get on the metal equivalents.
@piers Did you just clean the flash with a knife?
@torros yes just used a sharp scalpel as I do with hard plastics. Also used the GW mouldline tool as well on some of the 10mm Tanks.
Thanks
For 15mm and the price those mold lines are no problem. look like they come of pretty easy. I hope they dial that back with future releases though. The less prep work i gotta do. The better.
These are interesting… I’ve dabbled a bit in 15mm but not in a while .. but these could be a good way to reboot that.
? they’ll probably look great painted.
Here’s some links ti Romans painted up … figure variety makes for great units and detail is lovely.

I managed to grab one of those folders with the rules and dice packs a few weeks back. for figures I intend to use some of my joan of arc 15mm figures. I have made some movement trays so i can put them in to have a go with these rules, without buying any new figures.
I considered doing this as I have been playing MEG for a while, but when JoA arrived I found the size of the bases the figures became in were too big for the bases I use for MEG.
