About the Project

I managed to pickup the Star Wars Legion Clone Wars boxed set recently for the boys, while teaching them how I'd paint them I thought why not film it like I've done with some other bits in the past. I thought that way they can refer back to it.

I had topick up Padme, while you only see her fight a little in the series and films (compared to Anakin and Obi-wan) it wouldn’t feel right missing her out.

Tabletop Ready Padme

Painting

I went with the  Base spray from GW

The main colours I used were Skeleton Horde and Apothocary White which I think are fairly obvious. I know that the Skeleton horde isn’t quite what you see on screen but I think it works quite well. If I was to do it again I’d probably go with a different colour though.

As with Krennic I used Gulliman Flesh with a tiny bit of fireslayer flesh for the face in the recesses. I found that they work really well together. I think I’ll definitely be using this together on any other flesh I paint in the future.

To see specifics, check out the painting Vlog below.

Krennic was an absolute must for me, he is perfect to lead my Scarif Garrison of course.

I was very worried about painting the white on his cloak and jacket but with the contrast paint journey I’ve been on I thought I’d give the white a go.

Someone needs to lead the Garrison

Painting

I of course went with the Grey Seer Base spray from GW and then it was onto painting.

The main colours I used were Black Templar and Apothocary White which I think are fairly obvious. They were really easy to go on but when testing I did find it was better to use the white first as it’s very thin and can quite easily run onto other areas.

I used Gulliman Flesh with a tiny bit of fireslayer flesh for the face in the recesses. I found that they work really well together.

With Rogue One being up there as my favourite ‘New’ Star Wars film I couldn’t ignore the Shoretroopers! I just had to pick them up!

I wanted to get them as close to screen acurate as possible but at the same time I didn’t think they needed that much work. At the end of the day we want to play with these right? They’re not display pieces.

But still, as close as I could get them

On Screen Shoretroopers

Tabletop Ready Shoretroopers

Painting

I’ve following a similar pattern than I’ve done in the past so if you’ve seen some of my painting videos before this will make complete sense.

I started with GW’s Grey Seer, as contrast paints for the win!

Interestingly though I decided to only really go with two contrast paints. Wyldwood for the cloth areas (trousers) and black Templar for the weapons.

The armour was painted with Sandri dust and then shaded with Agrax Eathshade. This did turn out slightly darker than I’d have liked but I still think it looks pretty close. See the pics below.

It was really then just the detailing left, the right arm of each the troopers has a red area which was Mephiston Red and then the Left arm all troops have a white stripe flanked with a black border.

The only difference between the NCOs and the troops was the Blue across the top of their chests and the top of their arms.

Pretty simple really, for more detail check out the video below.

It feels like ages since I’ve painted any Star Wars Legion minis so I was definitely glad to get to these recently.

As with the other Star Wars bits I painted I wanted to get them as close to screen accurate as I could. While they’re all black I didn’t expect them to be as easy as paint with one colour!

Painting

First Step, Basecoat of Grey SeerFirst Step, Basecoat of Grey Seer

I painted up the Deathtroopers that we’ve seen in Rogue One and The Mandalorian, I’ve tried to replicate the colours you see on screen.

I think they’re not far off and they look great on the tabletop, which is of course the main thing!!

Paints I used:
Base Coat: Grey Seer
Armour: Contrast Black Templar/Vallejo Gloss Varnish
Detailing: Leadbelcher (silver) Helmet
Lights: Moot Green Helmet
Lenses: Warboss Green Base
Edging: Corvus Black

I can’t wait to get my games in with these guys, I’d definitely recommend you picking these up if you get the chance.

I’ve been wanting to get to these for a while but I’ve wanted to get them as close to screen accurate as I can. I finally had time over the weekend while watching the Virtual UK Games Expo online.

On Screen Pathfinders

If you’re interested below are the names I think the models are based on (left to right in gallery)…

Sgt Ruescott Melshi
Bistan
Corporal Pao
Lieutenant Taidu Sefla
Corporal Rodma Maddel

I’m not sure who the bearded guy is yet, I think it’s Corporal Mefran but the helmet is wrong. The rest looks right though, maybe they added the different helmet for variety?

Base Coat

No basing material at the start with this one just a base coat of Wraith Bone

Getting Leia Organa on the tabletop

I picked up Leia a little while back and have finally got to her. I avoided painting her straight away as I wanted to do her justice.

Painting

I wanted her to be as close to screen accurate as I could. To be honest I’m more about the rule of cool than being that accurate but I wanted to recognise it was her really.

I therefore went through my paints looking at some reference images from the movies to get it as close as possible.

First was basecoating though, I did this with Wraith Bone so I could use some contrast paints (which is coming pretty common with my painting lately).

Getting Leia Organa on the tabletop

It was then onto getting some colour on her…

Weapons: Black Templar with a Leadbelcher Drybrush
Face: Contrast Gulliman Flesh, eyes-White Scar/Corvus Black
Trousers: Fenrisian Grey
Shirt: Contrast Skeleton Horde
Body Walmer: 75% Flayed one Flesh/25% Nurgling Green with a Nuln oil shade
Boots/Belts/Holster: Contrast Black Templar
Hair: Contrast Wyldwood
Base: Rhinox Hide with Zandri Dust drybrush

Finished Model

I think she turned out quite well, I has to play with mixing some paints for her body walmer as you’ll see in the video but she’s not far off from what I envisioned.

I painted up the Trade Federations AAT, I was very close to going with the Phantom menace paint scheme of Tan, I’m glad I went for a lighter scheme as it’s not something I’d usually do so it felt really refreshing.

I only used 8 paints to get it done!! 2 for the Droid Commander

Base coat: Wraith Bone Spray
Weapons: Black Templar (Some with a little Leadbelcher)
Blue Detail: Altdorf Guard Blue/Calgar Blue Brybrush
Panel Shading: Agrax Earthshade
