Scale75 Bring Quick & Easy Instant Colours Range To Kickstarter
April 27, 2020 by brennon
It seems like Scale75 are getting into the quick and easy painting game with their new range on Kickstarter called Instant Colours. Much like Games Workshop's Contrast Paint range they are aiming to get your piles of grey plastic painted in no time at all and onto the tabletop.
The range has been designed so that it goes onto the model in one coat and significantly brings down the time needed to achieve tabletop quality results. Models that previously took a few hours to paint can be finished in around thirty-to-forty minutes and whilst they won't be to the same standard, they will be perfectly good-to-go on the tabletop.
Here are some examples of what they have been able to achieve with the range. Much like when we saw Contrast, I do like the overall finish to the miniatures even if it is very different looking compared to a traditionally painted figure.
For those with lots of board games which normally come packed with plastic miniatures nowadays, this again provides a nice solution and means that you won't have to slog through a collection in order to make it fit for the tabletop.
Much like with Contrast (again), I don't see this replacing the painting methods of the majority of hobbyists but I could see it as another fun tool in the arsenal. Anything like this becomes a great toy to play around with, especially when it comes to achieving interesting and diverse mixes and blends.
Scale75 has also put together two video tutorials showing these paints in action...
This shows the process on a character miniature and something a little larger. Again, I think it's neat and I could see this being a really nice option for tabletop fans who see themselves as gamers rather than painters. Because it does a lot of the steps for you in one go it means you don't have to worry about shading and highlighting.
Kickstarter Options
The campaign is broken down into a number of different options for backers but this gives you a general overview of the types of paint set they have in the works. Each covers a particular colour palette and provides you with a variety of shades and styles to make a miniature pop.
At its very basic level, the campaign allows you to pick up one of these sets of colours for twenty-five Euros. It does escalate in price from there with seventy Euros getting you a wider selection of paints plus a few extras and then 210 Euros netting you the entire range plus a bunch more.
I could certainly see folks diving in and maybe picking up one or two of these paint sets or just going all-in for the entire range. I think for a lot of people though, the real focus is going to be on picking and choosing what they want and going from there.
The campaign is going very well indeed and they have unlocked all manner of additional options for backers in terms of accessories and guides. A lot of people have really enjoyed playing with the Contrast range from Games Workshop so I can see Instant Colours also being a hit too.
The proof will always be in the pudding when it comes to collections like this and I am going to be interested to see how others get on with the paint range further down the line.
Are you tempted by the Instant Colours collection?

Yes and no. If they had a set of base colours I’d give it a go but these sets are just too much similar paints at once.
I believe the Wizard option gives you a good selection of colours?
yeah, that looks like the acual entry level set for this range as it has bottles from all 6 sets.
Each set appears to be themed on one colour type like all of their paint sets are.
But it’s nearly triple the cost of a single set… yes, it has more “in it” but to test something I don’t want the complete package.
But that thing is just double the size. Give me a box of one each from red, blue, yellow, a brown and four mixed variants of orange, violets and greens to get to 8 bottles. That for 25€ would be worth a test but I don’t buy hobby supplies in large quantities just to test them. If those are available in stores as separate paints I’d buy two or three bottles and try them. After that I might be convinced to buy a pack or set. But handing over 25€ or even 70€ (plus p&p) just to try something? Nope.… Read more »
Yeah, that. At retail, I hope they have a starter set and “army” sets which select a range of colors for different fantasy races. They have so many different variants of the same color, they should be able to package the sets suchthat there would be no overlaps. Too bad contrast paints weren’t around when I started painting. I use zenithal priming plus glazes, and colored primers plus washes, to accelerate my painting, and already have a few hundred dollars of paints. Kinda tough to spend more. That being said, good to see a company competing against GW for speedpaints… Read more »
I agree that it isn’t quite a ‘basic’/’trial’ set, but I think the entire range isn’t designed to be used with just a few colours like GW’s contrast appears to be.
Same problem kind of exists with the paint sets themselves.
However they did mention allowing backers to choose their own colours, which they did in a previous kickstarter, was too expensive (which makes sense).
And you’ve got to remember : this is kickstarter … so if you’ve got doubts on the value you really should wait for it to hit retail (which it should as it has been funded).
When it hits retail it looks like there will be a rack of paints, so you could pick up the ones you want. 🙂
buying single paints in a webshop tends to be too expensive unless there’s more to buy at the same time.
I haven’t seen a (local) retailer stocking Scale75 paints (or anything other than GW or Army painter for that matter).
I like how all of the paints appear to have a similar consistency, unlike GW Contrast where some colours are really really bold & bright and others are very weak.
it looks like this is a cheaper and wider range than GW Contrast too with only a bit less content per pot/bottle.
In addition they’ve got one more primer colour (light gray).
Definitely cool to see something similar in intent to GW Contrast.
(disclaimer : I did back this one)
I’m not sure I see any difference apart from being a more pastel colour between the instants and drawing inks
certainly looks a interesting paint set may have to do strong dark colours with a second coat but will speed up painting.

Apologies for the first post the pc was glichy and I thought the first one wasn’t sent so I rewrote the post Guy’s.
I’ll be waiting for retail because of mixt results with Contrast…
but.. but.. but..
THEY ARE JUST WASHES WITH A FANCY NAME !!!!
why the hype????
Washes don’t tint surfaces. Washes are not inks. GW contrast paints, and these, have an ink like component, and then a wash like component, so it tints the base a different colour, and then also shades it at the same time.
The thing I like about this one is the quality of their paints. If they keep their high quality these will make a nice addition to the hobby quiver
I will wait until they hit retail, none of the pledge options hit the sweet spot for me
