Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter Introduces The Dark Judges
April 10, 2020 by avernos
Osprey Games have now put Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter: Dark Judges (A Wildlands Game) up for pre-order and by god if nothing else that is one hell of a title. If you're not aware of Judge Dredd etc etc.. then it's a 2000AD skinned version of Wildlands, which in turn is a diceless tabletop boardgame that shares a lot in common with battle arena games.
Your team/faction/gang attempts to traverse a map and collect tokens while avoiding being killed up by your opponents. The first to five is the winner.
The Dark Judges expansion gives you a new faction to play against in Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter, or alternatively it includes solo rules to adapt the core game. Pitting your faction against the Judges as they attempt to deal with all this life that keeps cropping up. If you already have the core game and fancy taking a look at the rules you can find a PDF version here.
The rules themselves are short, around 10 pages long and follows on from Wildlands and Dredd in that they're easy to learn but difficult to master.
The games are fast and frenetic with friends and if you are wondering how it plays solo Pete Ward at Osprey has written up a solo playthrough on the blog where you can follow his gang of Judges as they deal with the reality hopping Dark Judges. The bat rep is nicely written up with a lot of photos so you can follow along even if you haven't played easily enough and it gives you a really good idea of how the game and solo rules play.
I have been itching to crack our copy out in the studio, maybe if I can't harass anyone else to play then I'll pick up the Dark Judges and play with myself instead.
Gaze into the face of Fear. Gaze into the fist of Dredd!
Ooh the dark Judges.
Those are nice.
