Superman’s Left Standing in the Rain for Dawn of Justice
July 3, 2014 by dracs
We saw what the Bat will look like, now we get to see how the Man of Steel himself will look in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Superman himself doesn't seem to have undergone much of a change since his last film appearance. What has most people interested is actually the skyline. Dark, smoggy, constant rain, it has to be Gotham returning once again to the big screen.
Ironically for a film with the word Dawn in the title the new Batman vs Superman film looks almost cartoonishly dark and brooding from the teaser images released so far. Possibly this could indicate the direction that the film will be taking Superman, his character arch following him as he comes to terms with having had to kill someone in the previous film.
Are you looking forward to seeing Batman and Superman come to the cinema?

“his character arch following him as he comes to terms with having had to kill someone in the previous film”
Or several thousand someones as the case may be.
Presumably he has no problem with “collateral damage”.
You know I actually have less of an issue with that in Man of Steel. Yes, Superman is perhaps the most powerful hero in the DC universe, but he is not omnipresent and can’t save everyone. Having said that, Man of Steel did rather aim a bit too high with the death count.
It’s not so much that he could have saved everyone, it’s that he never tried to save anyone and actively placed people in harms way. His destruction of the Kryptonian ship into Metropolis is the most blatant example. I cannot understand what was going through Snyder’s head when he thought that would be a good idea. The problem is it fundamentally undermines the end of the film. I just can’t bring myself to believe that he would have an issue with killing Zod. If it wasn’t for my outside and prior knowledge of the character I wouldn’t understand the ending… Read more »
He didn’t actively kill them…. it’s sort of the same annoyance as Batman Begins where *technically* he doesn’t kill Qui-Gon Jinn but .. he sort of does.
Note that in Man of Steel Superman is NOT in the movie until the last 30 seconds when he walks into the Daily Planet. He’s allowed to make mistakes until then … though this is probably a case of the director not thinking things through clearly…
The point is more about his supposed anguish over killing whereas everything that’s come before suggests he has a fairly lax attitude towards people dying as a consequence of his actions. It’s a very poorly told story.
but this error is made in countless movies, it’s almost a cliche in itself – mocked in the opening scene of Team America somewhat.
Bit harsh to single out Man of Steel no? Though one expects better from the director I suppose. Man of Steel was brilliant I thought apart from the third act which was mostly uninteresting action that should have been cut out/down.
If it isn’t criticized, they’ll just keep making terrible movies. We keep making excuses for crappy movies—it’s a cliche, no one expects better from [insert director]. The reason they keep making crappy movies, is because we keep justifying them. When a movie isn’t good enough, it’s just not good enough. Why is that such a terrible thing to say? Why is it suddenly verboten in our society to have standards?
Why would a man who flies around with his underpants on over tights worry about collateral damage?
We kind of went off on the whole WB Cinematic Universe in this episode. Brooding Characters Brooding at each other… now in the rain.
