Angels Of Death & The Daemonifuge Returns To Warhammer 40K
April 6, 2020 by brennon
This weekend saw some more previews from Games Workshop for their tabletop games. This week we're starting off with what they revealed for Warhammer 40,000 and the return of a much-loved character from the extended lore of the game. The Daemonifuge returns!
Check Out More Warhammer 40,000 @ Store.OnTableTop
This set brings you two iconic characters from the Daemonifuge graphic novel as Ephrael Stern & Kynagil take to the tabletop in search of Chaos forces to destroy. As renegades and pariahs amongst the Imperium, Stern and Kynagil are on the run from a lot of different people, both within the Imperium and without.
Both of these models will appear in the new Pariah Psychic Awakening book but they will also accompany a full-colour re-release of the Daemonifuge graphic novel too.
I missed out on reading this when it first came out and the only Warhammer 40,000 comic/graphic novel I read was Blood Quest but it's neat to see this return for another bite at the apple. The Psychic Awakening books do give them a lot of ways to introduce some stranger characters from the lore back into the game and it also means they can update their armies too without full codexes.
On that note, the new Pariah book will also come with additional rules for both Deathwatch and Harlequin forces alongside a few updates through White Dwarf magazine. This hasn't gone down well with a lot of folks but it will be interesting to see how it all gets managed.
Angels Of Death
As well as the news of Daemonifuge there was also another longer peek at what Games Workshop are working on in their Storyforge. Here is an extended trailer for Angels Of Death.
This animated film is going to follow the Blood Angels as they tackle the might of a Tyranid Hive Fleet and it seems like it is going to be full of action. Now, I don't want to grumble too much but I just don't like the animation style that they have gone with here. The animation feels stiff and the overall look reminds me of computer-generated cutscenes from games in the early 2000s.
I know they are going for a specific noir style with this particular entry into the Storyforge collection but this one doesn't work for me. Before anyone says anything, yes, I know that 3D animation costs a lot of money if you're working on an extended project.
I am however much more impressed by this snippet they showed during their reveals for a more realistic style of 3D animation.
If that look carries over into the final product then this one is going to get a big thumbs up for me. This character is going to be part of another big story that Games Workshop is working on and it looks like the Adepta Sororitas is going to be fighting alongside Space Marines against some Chaotic threat.
Word Bearer Leaders
Finally, we've got two models coming from Forge World for those making Word Bearer Legions in The Horus Heresy and the grimdark future of Warhammer 40,000 too. Two Praetors were previewed over the weekend.
The offerings will include a Praetor in Power Armour with both a Power Sword and Plasma Pistol at the ready and that intricate armour which is wrought with all manner of litanies. There is also a lot of detail worked into every aspect of the model and I love the change in the power sword core which is cracking with fiery energy instead.
If fire is your thing then you've also got this Word Bearer Praetor in Terminator Armour as well. He is armed with a brutal looking mace/maul which is full of simmering energy.
As was mentioned during the preview and above, you're not just relegated to using these miniatures in The Horus Heresy. You could easily drop these into your games of Warhammer 40,000 at the head of a Legion which has been battling for many, many years. With a little bit of converting you could even bring them into a Loyalist force as well if you were inventive.
So, what do you make of what Games Workshop showed off for the grimdark future this time around?

Angel of Death…. Is that Slayer, Thin Lizzy or the Vader cover of the Thin Lizzy song….
oh wait, this is not about music… doh! XD
That Praetor with the power sword and plasma pistol i like the look of but I doubt will go out of my way to buy it I’d rather spend my funds someplace else.
Surprised to see the Word Bearers get some love. That animation looks incredible. GW finally moving to compete with the fan films – and great to see them recruiting the fan film makers.
I originally wasn’t a fan of the monochrome style of Angels of Death, but it’s starting to grow on me. I’m getting a real Sin City or even Mutant Chronicles vibe from it, and I’m interested to see the finished product.
I don’t know anything about Demonifuge, but they did a GREAT job on those character minis, especially with all the dynamism they were able to convey.
Angels of Death looks obscenely good. Those Tyranid ships are perfect. If I have one (small) complaint it’s the Chaplain’s voice. Doesn’t sound anywhere like as powerful as it should.
The Daemonifuge minis look stunning and I’ll be grabbing them as well as (finally) picking up the graphic novel. I’m disappointed to hear they’re printing it in colour this time though. I have some of the old Warhammer Monthly comics and the original B&W illustrations are just so good.
The Angels of death film is looking brilliant, the new figures looks great as well.
The Sororitas breaking her legs looks like a weird combination of Batman and a force-choking Darth Vader.
That Eldar is pretty cool, though. I think he’d look better with some kind of motley on his face, though.
I like the stern model, shame.if you can only buy it with the space elf tho.
Funny… I guess GW got a lot of ‘pin-up’ complaints, but rather than tune down the heels and other inappropriate garb, they just made the sisters look dumpy. My missus has moved on to Raging Heroes models, as she still wants her warriors to “look hot”.
I certainly don’t blame her for that!
Nice minis, some good stuff coming by the looks of things.
