Animated 40K Short Astartes Part Five Goes Live & Phwoar It’s Good!
April 3, 2020 by brennon
If you've not seen the absolutely killer Astartes fan film which has been rocking Youtube for the past year or so then you're missing out. The animated short, broken up into five parts, follows a band of Space Marines and shows them off in all of their bone-crunching, bolter-shredding glory. And, Part Five has just released.
In Part Five, the Space Marines have made it to their objective and now find themselves dealing with an altogether different kind of threat which seems more powerful and insidious than they had first thought. A few sneaky peeks into the depths of Warhammer 40,000 lore have made their way into this final entry into the series but I'll let you folks delve in and see for yourself.
For those who haven't seen the series, here are the other four parts so you can follow along in full.
If you've enjoyed watching through Astartes then I would suggest going to check out the Patreon as whilst this series has come to an end, there are more Warhammer 40,000 stories to tell from this creator.
Also, for those wanting to make this Chapter into a tabletop army, the background for the Retributor Chapter has been released for you to use as a guide.
So, if you're looking to dive into a new Chapter and want to get your own blisteringly dangerous army of Space Marines onto the tabletop then you now have the tools to do so! The final entry into this series was a lot of fun and we hope to see more from this creator in the future! I honestly don't think I've seen Space Marines done so well since the Space Marine video game.
What do you think?

Loved the new edition to the story I wonder what the gold suit could be?
There are plenty of theories online heh – I won’t say just in case it spoils it for some folks.
I’m boring and thinking it is just a statue, either being built or being scrapped to make masks for more psykers (there are a lot of those spine thingies in the background)
Then again the finished statue, could be a new vessel for whatever is in the orb.
These are so good, it never gets old to watch them.
This is excellent. The lack of dialogue lends a real comic book feel to them. I love it.
MORE, I MUST HAVE MORE!!! I was so upset when part five ended, I really wanted to know more about the orb and that strange world they ended up in.
(BTW, Games Workshop, if you’re reading this and you’re still looking for people to work on your Warhammer Anthologies series, hire this guy!)
A quick update here: I just got done watching Arch Warhammer’s video on this particular chapter, and he mentioned something really interesting. The sphere and the weird Man-of-Iron-looking statue in the movie are apparently xenos artifacts from a race called the Yu’vath from way WAY back in the early days of 40K. Apparently, this race possessed a form of technology that harnessed warp power in a very controlled form (allowing for the shenanigans we saw in the movie), but their tech had a weird appearance almost resembling that of shaped and melded bone. While I like this nice call-back to… Read more »
In typical fashion somebody that is not GW makes a better and more appealing interpretation of their lore and visuals.
that’s because they don’t have to suffer through endless meetings where beancounters and marketing instead of artists get to decide what is cool …
What is more important is how GW is going to react to this series as it starts to gather momentum.
I think it is a bit too abstract to attract the ‘standard’ 40k fan so we may have a bit of time before they drop the (war)hammer.
They will not react in a correct way for sure, the work depicts 40k in its original form, a high tech post apocalyptic universe with all the religious and grimdark features “awkwardly” bolted on and it shows its charm in this way, the purity seals hanging out of place to the corridor leading to the containment chamber, the golden rozarious seemingly out of place in the hands of an inquisitor in high tech suit. In contrast GW has devolved the imagery to walking shrines of bones and religious icons meshed everywhere, especially in a background were humanity is supposedly utilizing… Read more »
No reaction is ever going to please the fans of this series … that’s for sure. The original 40k wasn’t even half as consistent and streamlined as these shows. Let’s not ignore what a mess the setting was before it gained momentum. As such it is no surprise that we lost things that (in hindsight) could have been great (Eldar Corsairs/pirates). And above all … GW needs to sell miniatures and the lore is at best a means to sell them and at worst something to ignore when that hinders the creation of a new miniature to sell. It does… Read more »
Such another amazing video, really can’t wait till the next one.
i wet my pants !
The animation is really well done but it a bit boring. Maybe its that I dont understand the background and lore
Extremely impressive.
Beautiful production. Unfortunate that it’s primarily inhabited by soldiers that look like mediocre toys designed in the seventies.
Looks great. No idea what is going on. A bit too cheesey for me as the Space Marines are invulnerable. Nice to see a beakey.
Astartes is an absolutely incredible fan series, and doubly impressive given that it is all the work of one person. I look forward to seeing more.
