Hrm, first time I’ve had problems with this new video player – I get like 1 frame every 20 seconds, and it stutters. I tried waiting for it to buffer, but that doesnt make any difference.
(Chrome, win7x64, 2GB memory, 1.333gz)
We deliver this stuff from amazons Cloudfront… i’m wondering if it’s a case that the data hasn’t fully propagated to their servers round the various parts of the world they host them.
Can you come back and try it again later on and see if it plays then?
It seems to be working fine for me in France, at least…
@warzan Hmm issues here to video seems to have buffered but still stutters along like its dropping frames out.
I run firefox on a opensuze system with 12GB of ram
And on a related note the VLOG with Ronnie is now doing the same despite earlier playing fine on the same computer.
HTH
Still isn’t working for me, but the Ronnie/Mantic one seems to work perfectly (still) I’ll try again tommorow, it’s probably techno gremlins up to their old tricks.
Beginner to painting, is there a painting 101 somewhere?
Love the humour
Sure ! If you use the search engine here on Beasts of War, or browse through the site, you will find countless tips and tutorials for beginners. I recommend the cycle on Colour Theory, and the Technique Toolbox.
Thanks !
Thanks Romain
Can I please ask what brushes you use?
Looking forward to part 2.
You’re welcome !
I favor the use of Raphael brushes… they’re great, and they last a long time. However, you will find excellen brushes in artist’s supply stores. I don’t really like the Citadel ones. If you browse Beasts of War or use the search engine, you’ll find articles i’ve written about brushes : how to choose and care for them, as well as some reviews of some brands of brushes.
Happy painting ! 🙂
Indeed, I’m always amazed by how well your brushes maintain their points.
There’s nothing to it, really… I just don’t use crappy brushes, and I take care of mine. A few easy gestures that take no time at all, like not painting from teh pot, rinsing your brushes correctly, re-pointing them, not losing the little brush-cover-thingie (whatever the name is), never letting paint reach the ferrule… that sort of thing.
Thanks
Last question, honest, what two sizes would you start with?
Lol… I don’t think you should need more than three sizes, ever. number 2, number 1, and number 00 or 000. But it depends on what you’re comfortable with, and you may want larger sizes to paint vehicles and the like…
I think I’ve painted this miniature completely (or maybe almost completely, I don’t quite remember) with a number 1 brush.
Anyway, you should try things out for yourself. Same thing for paint ! You’ll figure it out. Take whatever sizes you need, not just two ! 🙂
It’s really interesting how you almost paint in nothing but washes, I’ll be interested how you bring this model into full color throughout your process.
Thanks for your interest ! I’m painting it in a winter colour scheme, so of course it’s going to be mostly white… Washes and glazes on a white primer lend themselves very well to this sort of thing.
White, the bane of my life!
Even more interested in seeing how this pans out!
Look forward to the next instalment
Great to see you back on three colours up, Romain. Thoroughly enjoyed the technique toolbox but it’s good to see you painting a full figure.
Do you think BoW would ever allow these tutorials and their other videos to be downloadable for backstagers?
Thanks ! Miniature ER and special series are fun to do, though.
The video seems to work much better on Chrome than it does on Firefox, there’s probably a good reason for than but I have no idea what it is.
Another great from Romain, looking forward to the next installments!
For painting, building and other Tips go here http://www.beastsofwar.com/tag/Tips/ The list need updating with Roman’s recent series of technique toolbox but there is load of other stuff there.
Yes, we’ve built up quite the library… 🙂
It could you with Refining a little and a play all in a series option would be grand 😉 I might just be a bit too OCD as I like everything organised. On another note I never thought i would hear you say Drab so many time in one video :D. Very good video looking forward to the rest as I have a fear of paining white schemes, I would be really happy if I managed to get my painting up to this Level. As always its great video I like how you can keep talking with out needing to… Read more »
Well, such functions are food for thought, but with the amount of work to be done on the site, I can’t guarantee it’ll be a priority… The important thing is that one manages to find what one wants. Hopefully, that has been achieved !
Of course, if anyone has issues, please send us a message.
Thanks for the kind words and for your continued viewership !
I do like the new video format in Chrome. It might also be a networking issue? I work at a tech company (we have a hella-network) and it always plays great on my lunchbreak. 🙂 At home, I sometimes I have to try a couple of times to get backstage content like the weekender, hobby lab, or 3 colours and up.
“Armoured cleavage” and “high heels in combat, you have to be brave!” I swear I watch these just for the commentary (oh, and the painting tips, too!) 😀
I´m still having problems watching the video.
And: I love your Videos! No matter what you paint – it´s a pleasure to watch and to listen to your comments! Jacky Kennedy Version…! Per-fect! 🙂
Yeah same here, it just stutters for me – ill get a fraction of animation, then it gets stuck on a single frame for a bit. All other videos work fine though.
I’m curious to see how this paint job will progress. I’ve never painted a miniature this light before.
I like her little backpack. Like thermos bottles of hot cocoa, to keep her warm in the chilly snow! 😀
Saved this for after work on Friday, perfect way to kick back and start a weekend. Bravo Romain, lovely work as usual.
