About the Project

This has been sitting on the shelf for years, so with time at home I thought I would try and get this done for the spring clean challenge. I will also need to find the rest of it as I seem to remember there are some more bits to this somewhere.

Choosing the paint scheme

First step is deciding on the paint scheme for this bad boy, I wanted bad moons but also very rusted and also with panels of different colours as if they had been taken from other defeated foes.

Below is the first attempt, tested on the back of the head where its not so noticeable because of the pipes at the back, not sure I am happy with it as that seem to be to much grime/rust.

So I think the weathering scheme is sorted now, agrax earthshade on all the joins and rivits, then chainmail applied to the edges with a sponge and the ryza rust stippled over the top.

I also started to add panels of a different colour to the main body, just to break up the sea of yellow.

I’ve roughly sponged on the chainmail around the joins in the plates, i’ll hit it up later with ryza rust and that should be the main body done apart from the feet

Some more progress, have cleaned up the black on the weapons and add some brass pipes to the back. I’ve also found some of the missing bits but I cant seem to find the gretchin crew, but I’m sure they’ll turn up.

I’ve started on some of the detail, the weapons got a heavy dry brush with chainmail and I’ve added some brass work around the pistons. Some of the missiles have got a coat of Averland Sunset and the feet got some weathering as I seemed to have missed those completely.

Next up will be finishing the weapons with some brass & copper elements, finishing the yellow elements with Flash Gitz Yellow and trying to hunt down the remaining missing parts.

Rust Time again

I just got a Vallejo Rust, stains & streaking set and using that I have added some more streaks to the rust work on the model.

I need to get some of the details finished off so I assemble this beast.

Most of the details are done on the body now, just the missing crew to find and stick it all together.

Crew found (sort of)

I couldn’t find the crew for this, but I happen to have a stompa in my pile of shame and stole the crew from that.
Here they are in all their glory the painting is mostly done with contrast paints on a base of wraith bone.

Finally assembled it all together, not sure I want to paint something big yellow again. I like the addition of the crew especially the guy in the last picture hanging off the arm.
