Where to begin? A little background perhaps, yes let’s start there.

Last year I completed a project in February for the inaugural Snag-a-Normie month that involved painting up the Middle-Earth SBG starter box, Pelennor Fields and a few bits of terrain to run it in my house. The plan was to entice my RPG friends into miniatures and it worked! Or it would have if, after running a hugely successful first session for four of them, I had bothered to follow through on their requests for more. What I didn’t realise at the time was that my depression was starting to steal the things I loved from me and that included hobby. I laid down my paintbrushes and without any conscious effort did almost no hobby for the rest of the year.

In 2020 I’ve been working on clearing out my hobby horde and slowly getting back to things I love. Then I was assaulted at work and signed off with stress. There has been a lot of politicking and I’ve been caused more stress by my management’s handling of it all than by the initial attack. The highlights of my weeks have been the weekly pub quiz and Sunday games days. Now that those are cancelled, I’m very concerned about keeping my spirits up and my mental health from crumbling. A win by completing a project that I’ve been slightly ashamed of seems like the perfect remedy.

Goals

  • Complete the final model (Witch King on Fell Beast)
  • create a new playing surface
  • paint up all the suitable resin terrain I already own
  • scratch build more terrain to give me plenty of variation for playing Middle-Earth or other fantasy games
  • [optional, time permitting] paint up a third force for the Normies to pick from
