Superb rescue job there Monsieur Romain! I think a side by side before & after pic would really show the improvement.
I’m constantly impressed by the way you can just look at the model and switch between areas of focus without forgetting anything. If I didn’t work in onion layers (from the inside out so skin, then underclothes, then outerclothes then accessories) I would get lost.
Really looking forward to the next instalment. What do you use as paintstripper by the way?
Thanks ! 🙂
Oh, I forget a lot of things… but I remind myself by giving the miniature a once-over every now and then.
I rarely strip minis these days, but when I do I use medical grade Dettol bought in Belgium or the UK (rules and regulations are such that many disinfectants and stripping products are different in composition depending on the country… you’d have to find something that works in your country !)
Medical grade Dettol! I’ll see what I can legally source here as it might allow me to consider “pro-painted” models off ebay 😛 Many thanks.
I think my fat superglue-coated fingers may have down-scored your comment though and I hope a mod can correct that!
My Irish friends simply use over-the-counter Dettol. Works like a charm… But it’s not sold in France, alas !
At last, the trilogy concludes! Romain’s closing remarks are so modest. “Well, she’s a little better off
Augh, that didn’t finish. It was supposed to read:
“Well, she’s slightly better off . . . not much . . .”
Not much? 😀
Nicely done Romain.
Great video again. Would love to see Justin’s reaction to seeing his saved miniature. Also agree with darthshader a before and after picture would highlight the improvements. When’s the next miniature er?
Thanks everyone for the kind words ! I couldn’t wish for a better audience !
Next Miniatures ER will be when I get a chance to film it… The series is a real pleasure to do.
Deserves a rename from sharpshooter to “Rescued from a Calamity” Jane..
Brilliant job Romain. Loved the video series.
Aha! Calamity Jane reference, especially fitting with the pistols on the miniature!
Well, played sir! Excellent. 🙂
I reckon I could hear Justin’s teeth grinding again with your closing comments 😉
Worth a bit of teeth grinding though. Lovely rescue job!
@elromanozo turning irish by proxy ? I still end up using irish phrases after I moved from Dublin (after 4.5 years) 10 years ago, so I know that feeling 😉
I have also realised that I’ve been painting with acrylics off and on for 2 decades without a wet tray. I feel like such a noob!
Hey, it’s fine. Actually, some master painters refuse to use a wet palette because they use retardant instead, and are more able to control their dilution and paint by using a dry palette with compartments. It all depends on what you need… A wet palette allows you to work longer and experiment, a dry palette allows you to prepare and control more, and know exactly how many drops of paint/solvent/water/retardant you put in.
..and another thing is that wet pallet helps a lot when you pain on every day basis if you pain more locationally it does not make such a difference.
I’t was great show to watch and listen about colours and ideas behind using it, cant wait to see more.
One more thing I think is great is how Romain doesn’t significantly change the color scheme. Not only does this “respect” the miniature’s original paint concept (probably the only thing Romain respects about the original paint job 🙂 ), but on a more serious note . . . . . . keeping the original color scheme allows us to really see what has improved on the miniature and HOW it was improved. If it was repainted, say . . . to a bad-ass red and black scheme, viewers might be tempted to say, “wow, that red and black sure looks… Read more »
Well, thanks !
That’s the whole point : I don’t change, I repair and augment when I can. And let me remind everyone here that you can contact Beasts of War to submit miniatures to the ER ! 🙂
O.o do you have a degree in plastic surgery, fashion design and hairdressing ? You should have your own TV show ( well this kinda is and i hope to see more ) ! Amazing job!
Thanks ! Being gay probably helps… 😉
the difference from start to finish is amazing 🙂
really looking forward to seeing the next rescue mission ;D
always enjoy watching your videos when I’m working 🙂
time to watch some more ;P ha ha
I’d love to see a before and after comparison as well. I think she turned out great!
Great work!
Honestly, quite amazing! I was seriously wondering how the hell you’d save it, but of course I never doubted your skills – and lo and behold, the finished result is great. You make me want to be a better painter myself.
Thanks ! I aim to do just that !
This has to be my favorite painting series ever. To see a miniature go from hideous to gorgeous is so encouraging.
