New Ragnar Blackmane & Ghazghkull Models Sighted For 40K
March 9, 2020 by brennon
So, we knew that a Saga Of The Beast preview was dropping today and now it's landed with an almighty roar. Here we have the look at Ragnar Blackmane and Ghazghkull Thraka who will take centre stage in this next phase of the Sci-Fi saga that is Psychic Awakening for Warhammer 40,000 by Games Workshop.

We start with the massive new model for Ghazghkull who looks like he did before but significantly embiggened to match the new scale of Warhammer 40,000. As one of, if not the greatest Ork Warboss of the 41st Millennium, he was able to nearly kill Ragnar Blackmane. He did then have his head chopped off but that didn't stop this massive killing machine.
Mad Dok Grotsnik was able to make sure that Ghazghkull lived again, giving him a brand new body and a new purpose, revenge. He is absolutely packed with detail and looks befitting as a new hero of the Ork armies as they rampage across the galaxy in Warhammer 40,000.
Beast Slayer
On the other side of the coin, we've got Ragnar Blackmane himself who gets a new dynamic miniature to suit 8th Edition.
Ragnar effectively sacrificed his life to put an end to the might of Ghazghkull, although it doesn't seem to have done much good. However, the Young King was found by his warriors and was put through the Rubicon Primaris in order to save his life. He was not going to head to the battlefield in the sky anytime soon and instead comes back renewed, re-armoured and ready to get stuck in and hack apart some Orks!
This change is quite a nice one anyway, giving us another glimpse at how the Primaris effect is going to find its way into all manner of different Chapters over the next few years. Yes, he is standing on some rubble, but he needs it if he's going to get face-to-face with Ghazghkull.
What do you make of these two new models?

I love both of them.I haven’t played 40k since the beginning of 6th ed,but i’ll always love the Space Vikings and how can you not love big Ghaz ?
Orks were one of my first passions in 40k. I’m seriously tempted to get this just to get him painted up. What a gorgeous model.
OOOHHH!!! hell yes, so want Ragnar!!!!
and Ghaxghkull is fricken awesome
Thank goodness Ragnar looks better in 3D / in the video, than the still shot lol. That would be embarrassing! Looks like he’s doing ballet and doing a kitty-cat gesture lol.
Never been a Space Wolves fan but even I think that’s a cracking model. And Ghazghkull? Blinking heck yeah!
They’re both great but I LOVE Ragnar! About time he got an update!
Ragnar is nice but Ghazgkull is awesome.
As a Space Wolf fan since Rogue Trader (when Space Wolves were normal Marines with implanted fangs) I am really excited for the new Ragnar model – it’s really cool.
Not so much for Ghazghkull. I have never liked the Ork aesthetic very much, and this model, although impressive is too clunky and busy for my personal tastes.
Love the new ghazhkull figure.
Why do the new models have such tiny heads? Ghaz looks ridiculous. Why not just keep his body in proportion and just put him in a Deff Dread suit or something. I don’t mind the embiggening but please keep the internal scale of each model… Dude won’t be able to pick his nose now!
In the background on orks, they get bigger and beefier the longer they live and the more they kill. Ghaz hasn’t just been increased in scale, but he’s grown so much in his conquests that he’s nearly a Deff Dredd in his own right. The previous model of Ghaz was still decently big for a Warboss, but it didn’t reflect how much bigger he’d gotten in the fluff.
And quiet a bit of his bulk is probably some kind of suit. Don’t remember the name of the ork “terminator” suit at the moment though.
Meganob armor. Although he’s a boss, not a nob, so I’m not sure if his has a different name.
Given his size compared to his AoS counterpart, I could easily see them calling it “Megaboss Armor.”
AAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!! I LOVE THE NEW GHAZ!!! Ahem…sorry, but Ghaz has been one of my favorite 40K characters ever since I started, so seeing him all beefed-up and armed-up like this just makes me feel like a kid again.
But you know what this means? Now that we’ve got a new Ghaz, we need a new Yarrick to take him down.
I’ve got to be “that one” again: these don’t tempt me in any way… the space puppy is a space marine… but Ghazghkull Thraka… he’s somehow… wrong… the first edition was just a funny looking guy but the second edition was a proper Waaaghboss… but this ones look more like a suite then a resurrected head (as is described in the lore) It looks like a discrepancy.
But maybe I’m just an old fart. 😉
he also looks like he’s about to do a number 2 on the battlefield 😉
Maybe someone should grab a Hulk model and attach an Ork head to it instead ?
😀
I have to say Gahzghkull is an awesome looking model and they ruined another space marine character by primarising them…..
“embiggened”?
It’s a perfectly cromulent word.
The Simpsons has a lot to answer for
Gahzkul’s head looks a tad too small to me. The exposed thighs and armpit also look off.
Also, having him squaring off against a puppy is a little underwhelming – we all know Yarrick is his BFF.
?
Now we just need Yarrick to figure out a way to rip THIS power klaw off Ghaz to replace his current one…though he’ll probably need to wear his own suit of power armor just to support it.
Nah, Cawl will have figured out a way to Primarisise regular humans and we’ll get Primaris Yarrick.
?
Not gonna lie, part of me honestly wants to see that! (Though more likely Yarrick will just hold Cawl at gunpoint until he makes him his own suit of beefed-up power armor that he doesn’t need gene-seed augments to control. Just imagine an Ironclad Dreadnought with Yarrick in a throne where the sarcophagus would be, Ghaz’s power klaw on one arm, a hurricane bolter on the other, and a big banner decorated with an ork carcass on the back.)
I do not know what to say really what you share very well and useful to the community, I feel that it makes our community much more developed, thanks candy crush soda
You know, in the last 30 years Health and Safety has become increasingly important. You would think after 40 millennia they’d have made some progress…..Ragnar’s hair is about 20 milliseconds away from introducing his chainsword to his skull. When will they learn!!!!!
