Yesterday I attended my local Show WMMS on the outskirts of Wolverhampton, if any one plans to attend for future years, either go early or around lunchtime if taking a car as finding a parking space cab be an adventure.
The venue is a sports centre, with a reasonably sizes cafe and a large sports hall for the traders and games.
The number of traders seemed down though it didn’t seem to effect the early footfall and the hall was busy for the 1st couple of hours till around lunchtime which is generally the case with one day (specially Sundays) shows. So Coronovirus seems to have little effect.
It is more a show for historical gamers and Modeller’s and is one of the few that still dedicates part of the hall to Modeller’s, this was also reflected in the number of traders displaying airbrush’s airbrush accessories and paint.
There was only one stand selling a limited no of board and card games.
Sci fi and fantasy models where few and far between, even Flames of War and Team Yankee where virtually non existent. The exception being from the Mdf building manufacturers particularly Blotz who had a new range of Star Wars Legion scatter terrain in the form of crashed starship pieces in both 28 and 15mm
They had a nice set of 8mm terrain pieces including the ruims above for Adeptus Titanicus.
Perhaps the thing that made up for the limited no of tradesrs was the Traders was the number of excellent games being put on.
Apologies for my Gerry level of photography but here are some that stood out.
1 Dads Army.
54mm Zulu Wars
I usually get over there but couldn’t make it yesterday. Shame as it’s a good show and pretty handy for me (and I have a couple of mates in Wolverhampton for a post-show cuppa). Great pics, Bob!
And I remember the parking! Last time I went I had a lot for the Bring & Buy and had to haul it all from the far side of the running track.
There was a demo of the card 2d figures with some nicely uniformed re-enactors for Jacobite rebellion.
The other game that would have got @warzans mouth watering. ing was the Arab/ Israeli Wars Jerusalem, not for the period bout for the terrain.
And for Gerry a bit of Mythical Greece.
And some photos of the rest no particular order.
And fimally a 6mm Spearhead game a set of rules coincidentally mentioned by Gerry a couple of weeks back.
I was away over the weekend so sadly missed the show. Looks like I missed a decent one.
That’s part of me, top left, surveying the remains of my initial Soviet force, which had held up fairly well till Bob arrived to take the photo’s! Reinforcements arrived shortly after but failed to hold back the tide, largely due to a very effective Stuka attack! German win, but it was close 4 VP’s to 3 VP’s!
Enjoyed the show this year, as Bob say’s there were fewer traders this year but the atmosphere was up to the usual high standards.
It was my first year trading at the show this year and I enjoyed it immensely.
(You can even see one of my banners in one of your pictures! ?)
Great atmosphere at the show, and the standard of games on display was fantastic.
I’ll certainly be back again next year!
