Modiphius Helm New Dune: Adventures In The Imperium RPG
March 5, 2020 by brennon
Modiphius has revealed that they are going to be helming a new roleplaying game set within the world of Dune. With a new movie around the corner, it makes sense that there would be new options for those who want to take these adventures to the tabletop.
The game will use the tried and tested 2D20 system from some of Modiphius' other games and have you creating a character from the great houses within Frank Herbert's world. As well as being able to join one of the existing houses you can also follow rules which allow you to make your own house within the Padishah Imperium.
As with everything Dune, the game is going to centre around classic Sci-Fi adventure but also plenty of political intrigue behind the scenes too. You'll be able to play as agents, spies, mercenaries and potentially even criminals who serve the agenda of your given house.
Beta tests are going to be going live soon and you can join in and follow the progress of the game HERE.
Are you tempted to explore the world of Dune in roleplaying format?

So, the first thing I’m going to do is take out a Lasgun and fire it straight at a companions body shield. Game over. Roll new characters.
I’m hoping most people’s experience with Dune isn’t the David Lynch movie, so they get the reference you’re making. (I get it.)
The spice must flow an a new game is a great start.
While I could see the appeal of a Dune RPG, and it’s definitely a perfect setting for it, I’d love to see a Dune wargame, like the old RTSs they had WAY way back. Just imagine being able to command squads of Sardaukar, launching attacks on enemy spice rigs, or playing as the Fremen and riding sandworms into battle!
There sort of is a Dune tabletop game, it’s called 40k. The lineage is clearly visible, if a little warped (pun intended).
…Yeah, I guess I could see that. There’s plenty enough there so that you could basically use the 40K engine to create a Dune game. I guess I’m just a purist and would love to see proper Dune minis, but we’ve got enough that we almost don’t need them. (Heck, we’re even getting a proper ornithopter!)
I still go with Bolt Action as a Rules Frame:

I will watch this modipius project.
The RTS seemed to miss one of the key element of the settings, which was that gunfights were not a feature because everyone had a person shield. To kill someone you needed a slow moving blade.
